Why Do Liberals Hate America?
I disagree with this guy only on one point. Democratic Socialism is not evil as long as it serves the people and is constitutional. This country has several socialist programs that are beneficial to the country as a whole.

The idea of American exceptionalism has been embedded in our collective DNA for generations. It is the faith-based belief that, as Ronald Reagan put it, America is a "shining city on a hill."
Do modern liberals believe that?
I almost never try to get into the other side's head or ascribe ill motives to those on the left. They are, I've always believed, misguided, not malign.
But I'm having second thoughts after listening to Barack Obama's defense of communism/socialism when he was in Argentina. He advised young people to get behind "what works" economically -- as if there is some deep mystery here.
Obama didn't misspeak. The modern left in America really has come to believe that communism, socialism, Marxism and totalitarianism -- or other terms for the monopolization of power into the hands of a ruling elite -- are superior to free-market capitalism.
The president of the United States is supposed to be the global spokesman for free enterprise. But, instead of traveling to Cuba to point out to the world the decades of stagnation, deprivation and dehumanization at the hands of the Castros, and instead of using this moment in history to showcase the triumph of capitalism 90 miles away, Obama praises Cuba's health care and education systems.
He might as well have been praising Mussolini for making the trains run on time. Even more unbelievable: The media applauded.
How far the Democratic Party has fallen. Can anyone imagine Obama, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders having the gumption or wisdom to tell Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall"?
It wasn't so long ago that leading Democrats -- JFK, Harry Truman and even the AFL CIO -- were staunch enemies of communism. Today, there is no place for such beliefs within the progressive Democratic Party. If it involves ceding power to the state, the left is all for it -- as evidenced by the rise of Bernie Sanders.
But for every action, there is a reaction, and the left's lunacy has given momentum to the tumultuous uprising on the right this year. Millions of voters who support Donald Trump want our government to put America first and focus on our own mounting problems at home, then worry about Europe, Israel, the melting ice caps, AIDS in Africa and so on. If your house is burning down, you put out that fire and save your own children trapped on the second floor, before you go down the street and put the fire out at your neighbors' house.
Here's just one observational data point that, admittedly, is anecdotal but speaks volumes about the left-right divide in America. At a typical Donald Trump or Ted Cruz rally, you will see American flags waving everywhere. These are patriotic gatherings. At Sanders events, you will see some flags, but not many -- because if you are a leftist, it's not cool to love America. What is much cooler is wearing a Che Guevera T-shirt.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Re: Why Do Liberals Hate America?
I'd just like to remind Mr. Moore, and you too, liberty, that Obama is not the president — Trump is (although even as a past president, Obama is still orders of magnitude greater a statesman than Trump can even dream of being). And to read Mr. Moore's words railing against "the monopolization of power into the hands of a ruling elite" while totally ignoring the current administration's de facto policy of rule by executive fiat is enough to boggle the mind.
And then he invokes Reagan as having the gumption or wisdom to tell Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall!" while making the dubious claim that Hillary, Obama, or any of the other so-called flag-bearers of "the left" (you can almost hear the 'ptui!' of him spitting on the ground as he writes that term) would not have had the fortitude to do so. One can only wonder what Donald Trump, who wants to build "The Great Wall of Mexico" along our southern border, might have said under the same circumstances. I can only assume it would have been something along the lines of "I'd have built it bigger!"
Finally, he closes with an analogy of fighting a fire to illustrate Trump's claimed intent of "Putting America First" and "Making American Great Again™"...
One can only shake one's head in disbelief.

I'll ignore for a moment the dubious logic of just how a government shutdown which deprives countless thousands of working Americans of their paychecks and threatens their livelihood is "Putting America First", and just remind Mr. Moore that America *WAS* — and in many cases, still is — literally on fire (at least, the last time I checked California was one of the fifty United States). But just yesterday (Wednesday the 9th) King Donald and his own "ruling elite" decided, arbitrarily and unilaterally, to suspend funds for FEMA to assist AMERICANS who are affected by these wildfires.Millions of voters who support Donald Trump want our government to put America first and focus on our own mounting problems at home, then worry about Europe, Israel, the melting ice caps, AIDS in Africa and so on. Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Sad to see Mr Moore wasting a few hundred words on "Why do liberals hate America?"
"They don't." - this answers the question in two words.

Re: Why Do Liberals Hate America?
And as the last recession demonstrated, free market capitalism leads to a concentration of power in the hands of a big oligarchy, wh demands from the government large quantities of corporate welfare when they experience a setback. That appears to be the rule in a free market--tell the people "you're on your own" and then demand they bail you out when you err.
Bit it's the liberal who are the problem.

This fundamental respect for each other’s patriotism has exited the conversation, which is a huge obstacle to regaining the norms of bipartisan governance.

Even worse, he appears to define America solely as a capitalist venture in which its Chief Executive is the spokesman for free enterpise and nothing else. An somehow socialism is synonymous with totalitarianism (thankfully Liberty does not embrace this belief). So anyone who somehow suggests other systems may work or some restraints on laissez faire capitalism are defensible cannot be patriotic, because those positions are completely contrary to what America is.
Pretty sill IMHO, but that looks like what he is saying--and there are probably some who would echo that.

I wonder if liberty (or Moore, for that matter) has ever met an actual liberal American voter, and had a conversation with one.

Re: Why Do Liberals Hate America?
Why do conservatives assume hate is the motivation for liberals?
Could it be projection? Could it be that is why the supporters of Trump, or the conservatives who renounce federal deficits under all economic conditions except when it benefits the rich, modify their policies so infrequently when confronted by conflicts with reality?

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Re: Why Do Liberals Hate America?
Did Moore get a different version of Obama's speech in Cuba, rather than the one that was actually delivered? Sent by someone who has a grudge against him, perhaps, and wanted him to look stupid when he misrepresented what was actually said in the real speech?
There was literally one sentence spoken about Cuba's education and health care. He devoted about 10 paragraphs to how U.S. trade, business investment and technology were going to help build a better Cuba, and two more to saying that Cubans were entitled to universal human rights a democratic government. He brought hundreds of U.S. business leader with him to sign commercial deals. They hosted an entrepreneurship event, for cripes sake. How was any of that inconsistent with being the global spokesperson for free enterprise?
To read Moore's version, one would think that Obama had gone to Havana quoting out of Mao's Little Red Book.
And I read the transcript of his town hall in Argentina, but I couldn't find a "defense of communism/socialism" anywhere in it. I guess I am not interpreting the code language correctly. When he says "building prosperity through entrepreneurship" he was actually saying "make Che Guevara's birthday a national holiday in the U.S." When he said that communism had kept Cuba's economy stuck in the 1950s, were we supposed to interpret that as a compliment to Cuba's
