I believe this is very unlikely, but I think we also have to leave open at least the remote possibility that we didn't actually see what it looks like we saw... (I have to credit Kelly with this theory)

I don't feel like going back and checking, but I believe the last time we see actually see Daenerys on the dragon is in that shot when the bells start ringing, and it really looks like she's intent on going straight at Cersei...

Then the next thing we see is the dragon mowing down crowds of innocent people and soldiers that have surrendered...

I don't feel like re-watching it to verify this, but I don't believe that in all the scenes of dragon fire carnage that follow that we actually see Dany on the dragon. Just shots, (usually from below) of the dragon letting loose with it's fire...

If that's true then at least the possibility exists that she didn't direct the dragon to do what he did...Maybe the dragon went on a rampage himself to get vengeance for the killing of his brother, or just plain went nuts for some reason...

Like I said, I don't see a really good chance of this, but it has to be considered a possibility....

I watched it again this morning, and I think that’s a mistaken theory. I’m pretty sure there are at least a couple of shots of her on Drogon as he destroys King’s Landing.

eta: I just dialed it up again, and there is a scene about 53 minutes in where Drogon blasts the shit out of the Red Keep and you can very clearly see her riding on his back. By this time she’s already burned most of KL and murdered thousands. No passes for the Mad Queen, she’s entirely responsible for the post-surrender carnage.

More Than 1 Million Disappointed Fans Sign Petition Demanding ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Remake

A day before the series finale of Game of Thrones, disappointed fans are calling for a remake of the last season.

As of Saturday evening, 1.02 million people had signed a Change.org petition saying the hit HBO series “deserves a final season that makes sense.”

Dylan D., who started the petition to HBO, criticized series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, accusing them of being “woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.”

Apparently more signatures could be coming too, after Dylan posted an urgent plea saying: “Let’s get to 1,500,000!”

Among the passionate viewers adding their signatures to the petition was Matt Harvey who wrote: “I’m seriously disappointed in the way D&D handles the show. I’m gonna read the books to get a better story.”

Added Alfredo Rios: “Once again another ruined show! please make it right!”

Meanwhile Aaron DeMun expressed deep disappointment in the final episodes, after binge-watching the previous seven seasons.

“Just God awful. I watched the first 7 seasons in a binge to get caught up and come to find out all the foreshadowing is pointless. I would like to see the best in people not the worst,” DeMun wrote.

Despite criticizing the series, fans have been watching in record numbers, with last week’s episode snagging a linear audience of 12.5 million. Perhaps some of the petition signers will have a change of heart after they watch the conclusion.

The series finale of Game of Thrones airs Sunday at 9/8c on HBO.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Series Finale Therapy Available For Sad Fans

Therapists are standing by to help fans cope with the HBO series coming to an end.

Tonight is a dark and dreary night that many super fans of HBO hit Game of Thrones are not ready for. After eight long years, the series is coming to an end.

An online local service marketplace called Bark, however, is banking on a lot of sad and lonely Game of Thrones fans needing someone to talk to after the finale airs. In fact, the marketplace is offering the opportunity to hire a grief counselor to assist fans in how to move on after the series comes to an end.

“The professionals will help them digest their feelings and interpretation of the show, which could range from anger and confusion to sadness and grief,” a description of the therapy service reads.

According to some of Bark’s therapists, it is common for fans to become so attached to a TV show or a movie that they find themselves having a hard time moving on when the series comes to an end.

“We watch them to escape our daily lives and immerse ourselves into the ‘unknown.’ This is the very reason why we sometimes become addicted to watching them, the stories they tell become part of our identity,” Lynette, a counselor from Bark, said in a statement.

Through the therapy service, fans of Games of Thrones have the option of booking 30- or 60-minute therapy sessions.

Prices range from $25 to $51 depending on what type of session is booked. Fans can book face-to-face, group, or online sessions. The real goal behind the therapy the service is offering is to make sure super fans of the HBO series are able to move on after something they’ve been so immersed in concludes.

I thought it was a terrible ending, and frankly I thought the whole season was a disappointment. (As I said to the spousal unit, "If that's how things ended up, it's no wonder George R.R. Martin didn't bother to finish the books.") They spent the first four episodes on the battle with the Night King, then last week was basically just an hour of murdering everyone, all to lead up to the pretty obvious now-we-have-to-kill-Daenerys finale. And to top off all the what-the-fuckery, everyone suddenly agrees to make Bran king? On the basis of what demonstrated leadership skills? And his sister gets to have her own whole independent kingdom to herself and no one says boo about it? And Jon Snow--who has a legit hereditary claim to the throne -- isn't even asked his opinion, he just meekly trundles off to a life sentence in Siberia? It seemed that the writers were like, "Now that we've got the money, how fast can we wrap this up and go home?" Feh, the whole thing stinks of laziness.

I've never watched an episode of Game of Thrones. I saw early on the effect it was having on people and it wasn't pretty. A man took a look at an episode, then the episode took a look at an episode, then the series took the person. It was happening all around me. It was terrifying. I'm glad it's over.

Obviously I’ve already expressed my frustration - apparently shared by millions - about the sudden shift in Dany to megalomaniacal mass murderer. I’ve read a number of reviews and essays and forum discussions since wherein discussion of the many foreshadowings of Dany’s coming madness throughout the prior 7 seasons. Clearly there are millions who see that, but despite 3 viewings of the entire series, I just don’t buy that interpretation.

I’ve never read the books and I’m not sure now that I would - I understand that they’re massive and whilst I loved such books in my youth, I can’t really focus that long anymore and especially considering many of the major plot points are spoiled for me now . . . but I think the controversy over the series ending has highlighted the ultimate importance of the author. There was magic in the earlier seasons that was missing in the last two, and both the resolution of the Night King and the resolution of the Iron Throne just didn’t hold the same magic or feel like they were in keeping with the prior characterizations.

It was still stunningly beautiful, in particular the scene where Dany appears after the decimation of King’s Landing and seems to wear Drogon’s wings, and when she’s carried off by Drogon after he destroys the Iron Throne. The soundtrack for the episode - and the whole season - was also great.

I think it goes down in history as a really great series, and justifiably so. But I do feel like it could have ended better.
