I am sick!
I am sick!
We had a staff member test positive for covid last week. A few days ago I started to have chest congestion and a bit of a sore throat but no fever so I passed through to work without issue. I also tested negative twice last week as we had double helpings of testing after the positive case. I went in today for another test and await the findings. It is pretty interesting to try and sort out regular seasonal rhinoviruses vs covid. The testing does not instill any confidence as there are fair numbers of false negatives and false positives. I have to say that if this is covid I am experiencing, it is underwhelming. Time will tell.
Of course this weekend we are having our Halloween-a-palooza for the kids. I will have to stay in and away from the kids so I will run around and scream from windows as the kids do their mini hayride through our small haunted trail. This year we went all out and bought some animatronic monsters for the back yard. I found a huge dragon at one of the Halloween stores and my goal is to get that sucker and hire someone to put it on top of our mini barn out back for next year. It's a thin line between a nice, scary exhibition and the grand kids requiring therapy afterwards.
Don't give up hope BSG maybe the grim reaper will pay me a visit.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Pretend to be a lot more miserable than you are feeling if that will guilt other in your household into spoiling you.

Re: I am sick!
With some coughing and sneezing an runny nose I went thru some fear and even panic, wondering, last weekend. No fever. I have age, blood type, pre-exsisting conditions, all against me. Then the next morning paper had an article on early symptoms, before the fever. The leading indicator described was loss of ability to smell, with a list ordinary things typically around the house, if you can't smell them, get thee to a testing facility.
After I found I could smell a fresh lime, and coffee, I stopped worrying.
I have no idea what the history is between the author of this thread and BSG, but I don't wish this pandemic on anyone, not even the Attny Genl of the US.

Don't worry about COVID. It will make you feel 20 years younger. You get it and then it's gone.
On a more serious note, take Scooter's advice even if it's just a cold. And set up a GoFundMe to help you pay for cough syrup and Kleenex so you don't have to pilfer it from work.

Yeah, I am not really particularly sick. I did call off yesterday because I sounded so hoarse that I was almost unintelligible and I felt it would likely cause patients to freak out. I am off anyway the next few days so hopefully I will mend. If I test positive I will be home-bound again just like last summer with the foot. I just got my PTO built back up which irritates as it will mean none left to take a vacation if that is a thing again.

I don't know about the Covid but I'm putting your house on my list for trick-or-treat if that is ever a thing again. What kind of candy you got?
Oh, and what Scooter said. And hope you're feeling better soon.
GAH!

Candy, cookies and apple cider, and probably pizza. Thanks for the well wishes.

@W, I'm addressing this to you. I don't give a damn what your co-workers have come down with or what BSG may have said during one of her tirades, but we've lost too many people on this forum in recent years. Now I know none of us are immortal, but I'm issuing an order right now .....
YOU MAY NOT CROAK WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.
And I am NOT, at this time, granting anyone that permission.
There. Now that we have THAT out of the way, take care of yourself and get yourself back into the picture of health.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Oh and look at the FFCRA - pretty sure if you work for an eligible organization you get 2 weeks of paid sick leave (which supplements your PTO) if you have to quarantine bc you have COVID or were exposed to it. That provision is good until 12/31/20. Oh and this is not legal advice

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Last I heard my company was not offering that. They were then they were not. I will have to double check. Thanks for the not legal advice and well wishes.Guinevere wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 7:24 amWhat he said (something I rarely write here). Get well quickly, please!

RT-PCR is pretty good as a test method with few false positives. False negatives, in my (never!) humble opinion, are almost always sampling errors in that when they take the swab they either miss it or they don't preserve the sample properly until testing.
I hope you are getting the RT-PCR test but, because it's expensive and time consuming, it is sometimes not used as the default procedure. It's annoying when I hear numbers that x number of tests were performed last week/month or whatever because they are all so different: it's not just apples and oranges but with pears and grapes and bicycles and puppies thrown in for good measure.
That being said, good luck!

What blood type do you have? I have heard that people with O positive blood do the best with covid. Is there anything to that?TPFKA@W wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 12:59 pmLast I heard my company was not offering that. They were then they were not. I will have to double check. I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

There is some evidence but it looks as if the studies were limited and the benefits, if any, of Group O were thin.

So, you're Vulcan. That sounds logical.

Green and copper-based as well.
