Re: Fall back (time change tonight)
Wouldn't that pretty much be the same as redefining "noon" to be one hour BEFORE the sun is directly overhead, thus recalculating GMT and more-or-less moving the time zones across the world one hour eastward?Lord Jim wrote:
However, I suppose if the Brits are still permitted to drive the rest of the world to distraction with their 'tea-time', their indulgence in their various quirky sports such as rugby and cricket, their persistence in calling soccer "football", or their slavish devotion to the concept of the long-defunct British Empire and the monarchy, we Yanks might as well continue with our own maddening little annual idiosyncrasy known as Daylight Saving Time.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

We've still got the Prime Meridian. We're thinking about selling it to Trump for a few trillion. For that he could have it pass through Mar-a-Lago and call it the Trump Meridian. But please don't say anything, Negotiations are still secret.

Ah, but only because you BRITS up and declared it was the Prime Meridian. And that was back in your glory days, when the sun truly never DID set on the British Empire, so nobody dared say differently.ex-khobar Andy wrote:We've still got the Prime Meridian. I worry about how all this nonsense effects Minkowski spacetime.
The space/time continuum is key to our existence, right?
My mother didn't raise no dummies, you know.

The cats aren’t buying this palaver which is why I’m writing this at 6:03 AM. They get fed at 7 and if I’m late they find some plastic to chew on noisily or knock stuff off the bedroom chest of drawers. Or "accidentally" jump on my goolies which usually works. I’ve explained to them about the tilt of the earth’s axis and why the farmers like to milk the cows in daylight but they really don’t give a shit about the farmers. They can’t read the time of course - so I have to tell them to wait until the big hand is on twelve and the little hand is on the seven. None of this works. This always takes a week or two, a few minutes at a time.

Ok, not until this coming weekend, but I was reminded now.

I wish we could turn the clock back to when LJ and RT were here.

That would be nice; don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

Hear, hear!
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Remember to turn your clocks back tonight...
(and a friendly reminder to the Republicans —
we go back ONE HOUR, not TWO CENTURIES.... )

I'd vote for springing forward next year, and making DST into standard time forever.
