FDR was, at best, a useful idiot for Stalin. I'm not sure if there were more people working for the US or the NKVD in his administration. Hell, Stalin knew more about the Manhattan Project than Truman!Bicycle Bill wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 7:49 amAnd England allied with Russia to fight Nazi Germany in 1941 when they signed the Anglo-Russian Agreement (and later the Anglo-Russian Treaty in 1942) after the Germans launched Operation Barbarossa — documents which the US also acknowledged. According to your pretzel logic then, since they were fighting a country (Germany) that was fighting against Russia (which had already gone Bolshevik/Communist in 1923, following the Russian Civil War), that makes both Churchill and FDR 'Commie symps', and all those WWII veterans 'communists' too, right?liberty wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 3:41 amDo you deny that you praised communist China doesn’t that make you communist; what if someone praised Nazi Germany would you approve of that? Communist China is Nazi Germany on a massive scale. China is using slaves to raise cotton in western China. And you advised your children to go there and become part of the system.

Re: I quit
Hardly surprising. Soviet scientists were just as aware as American scientists (or, for that matter, European scientists who formed the backbone of the Manhattan Project) about the potential for atomic power to be used for military purposes. The Russians lacked access to uranium, however. It's inconceivable that they did not tell Stalin.
Stalin - more accurately, his scientists - knew about the MP because they were looking for it. Klaus Fuchs gave them information, the value of which is still disputed. Fuchs' motivation was not money: for what it's worth, he thought the world would be a better place if the information was more widely disseminated and not solely in the possession of the west. Truman knew nothing about it because he did not have his own scientific advisors to tell him of the possibilities and FDR did not brief him. Henry Wallace, who preceded Truman as FDR's VP for the war years, did know because he was there at the initial meetings and knew about the Einstein/Szilard letter.

Re: I quit
Back in 1972 I knew someone who was an election judge who told the tale of someone asking for help voting because he wanted to write in "WALLACE" for President. He explained carefully and patiently just how and where to find the space to write in a name, and instructed him that when he found that space he should write in "HENRY A. WALLACE".
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

My dad's first vote for president was for Henry Wallace. I'm guessing it was because Gene Debs was already dead.Econoline wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 10:41 pmBack in 1972 I knew someone who was an election judge who told the tale of someone asking for help voting because he wanted to write in "WALLACE" for President. I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.
Re: I quit
Can anyone name the thread in which comrade Sue said she advised her kids to move to China?

I actually tell my kids they should consider re-locating to Shanghai if they want to get in on the ground floor; in terms of economics, that's going to be the place to be for the next 50-100 years.
If you support Communism you are mass murder by proxy.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Right. Totally. You are such a code-breaker!
"If you want opportunities for success in a rapidly growing economy that will power the world for the next century, you might consider the world's largest city in the world's largest country, which has just outpaced the U.S. to become the world's largest economy."
That's quite a full-throated endorsement of communism!
Also, if you support capitalism you are a slaver by proxy. It's certainly a much more direct, logical and supportable connection than "communism = mass murder."
Also too, I've been pretty clear about my Marxism, which is pretty standard socialist theory. If you actually had a genuine interest in political philosophy, you might recall that I have specifically argued against Leninism, which is fundamentally a justification for anti-democratic suppression of counter-revolutionary opinion. But you are only interested in mindlessly labeling everyone a "communist" so you can advocate for their murder. You really should consider exactly who is the "mass murderer" in the fucked-up world inside your head.

Careful, a few more slips of the lips and he will be able to identify us fifth columnists---OOOPS!
FWIW, communism doesn't have to be anti-democratic anymore than capitalism does. There are many communities, currently and throughout history (including most early Christian communities)that have been self governing by their citizenry that adhere to communist principles such as "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs". Really not all that bad--no mass murder needed.

They do have an interesting human rights approach. Can’t think that I would encourage my nephew’s progeny to toss their hats in that ring.

Re: I quit
China has a repressive authoritarian/totalitarian government whose human rights record is abysmal, that is a given. But not everything in life is about governmental systems. Literally billions of people live under governments that are hardly shining examples of democratic values and human rights protections. (Consider both the history and contemporary conditions of our own country.) You don't have to live in a Western democracy to have a good life; other things may be more important in any individual's view.

Lots of people living in China have lots of money. Is its not the capitalist way to take their money in exchange for Fords and Chevy's made in Georgia and California? Or even for BMW's made in America?
