Or does the amount of time that a PM takes to go from "outbox" to "sent" status seem to be getting a lot longer?

It depends how long it takes someone to open their PM.

It will stay in your outbox until it is read.

Hen nailed it, it's not the sped of delivery which is important, it's when the person accepts it.

Ahh...

Okay, now I understand...

I misunderstood what "outbox" meant....

I thought it was some sort of intermediate stage that a PM went to prior to actually being delivered to the intended recipient...(ie, "sent")
