The comparison to Westboro Baptist Church is inapt. No atheist is barging into a church service -- or even standing outside one -- screaming "Reason Hates Christians" or "Thank Secularism For Dead Christians."
Actually it is oddly apt if you consider both blatantly violate what they claim to believe. Seeing as there is no way to reasonably know that it's a myth. In order to know that you would have to have evidence proving such. there is none. you could claim that it is extremely unlikely (and that would be reasonable) but, instead they took the leap of faith to claim their beliefs are known.

My comparison to Westboro isn't so literal, but based on the emotional distress an inappropriately-timed atheist campaign causes. If Westboro and the non-believer's advertising was done in the exact same way, at some other time, so as not to coincide with other's services, it wouldn't be so distressing. I understand, they're both constitutionally protected, and it's up to the participants to change their venues.

The Feast of the Circumcision is news to me, but in looking it up, Wiki says it's held on January 1st. That would be New Year's Day, not New Year's Eve.

Which is why I compared it to Mardi Gras.

There is a lengthy cultural tradition of including the holiday's "eve" as part of the celebration (e.g., Christmas Eve, Hallowe'en).

I definitely agree with the idea that there is a segment within the atheist community that behaves in an obnoxious and arrogant manner towards religious celebrations, and those who cherish them...

However, that having been said...

Until they start showing up at the funerals of soldiers yelling "YOUR SON ISN'T GOING TO HEAVEN BECAUSE THERE IS NO GOD! HE'S JUST GOING TO ROT IN THE GROUND!"

I think the Westboro analogy is over the top....

Saying; the Son of God is just a myth doesn't bother you then, OK.

In the strictest sense of the word, it is a myth.

Holding yourself to such strictness is part of your problem.

You are correct....in the strictest sense.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Strictly speaking, that is.

Oh my, now I have a "problem" because I label an accurate statement as accurate.

Self-labeling is self-labeling, and is open to interpretation of accurate.

I was not self-labelling, I said that the statement "the Son of God is a myth" was accurate in the strict sense of the word. There is no interpretation, it is simply fact.

Myth:
A myth is defined as a sacred narrative explaining how the world and humankind came to be in their present form...The main characters in myths are usually gods, supernatural heroes and humans. As sacred stories, myths are often endorsed by rulers and priests and closely linked to religion or spirituality. In the society in which it is told, a myth is usually regarded as a true account of the remote past.

Yea, how does that prove that the Son of God is a myth?

Because it fits squarely within that definition.
