A thief dubbed "hopeless" by his own defence solicitor has been warned he faces jail unless he goes straight.
Mark Doab, 24, of Embankment Road, Plymouth, Devon was tracked down by police after a series of basic blunders in April and May this year.
He left his wallet at one crime scene, dropped his mobile phone at another and was caught on CCTV on two further occasions. He admitted the four thefts.
A district judge sentenced him to 32 weeks, suspended for 18 months.
The court heard when Doab snatched a charity box containing £20 from a Devonport newsagent, he left his wallet behind which had photo identification in it.
When he fled a city store with a stolen DVD player worth £150, Doab dropped his phone which was registered to his home address.
He failed to spot CCTV cameras and did nothing to cover his face when he stole £110 from a woman who had just withdrawn the cash from a Lloyds TSB bank.
Doab was also traced through CCTV when he stole a £400 bracelet from Argos.
Graham Kinchin, defending, told Plymouth Magistrates' Court: "Either he was hopelessly unprofessional or he wanted to be apprehended, but has told me he did want to be arrested."

I can beat that...
That guy was a criminal mastermind compared to this dude:
The guy tases himself, handcuffs himself, and then calls the police to come and pick him up....
You couldn't find a more obliging and civic minded criminal than that....

A teenage car burglar in Tavares had to call police to free him after he shackled himself with handcuffs he had taken from a police car, OrlandoSentinel.com reports.
But that wasn’t Shane Thomas Williams-Allen’s only problem. He also managed to Tase himself while stealing a Taser from an unmarked Ocoee police car, something he admitted to deputies while they were taking him to a McDonald’s (he told them he was hungry when he was taken into custody).
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said he may be linked to nine car burglaries around Clermont and Minneola.

Re: If only they were all like this
So he's stolen nearly £700 worth over four separate occasions (that we know of) and gets what amounts to a slap on the wrist. He's a habitual thief and needs to serve some time.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

And here's another nice man;
A Mozambican prisoner who had been released on parole broke back into jail after discovering he didn't like life on the outside, state media reported on Wednesday.
Camilo Antonio, 28, was released from the Manica Agricultural Penitentiary in central Mozambique after serving half the 10-year prison sentence he had received for the 2004 murder of his stepfather, Noticias newspaper said.
But Antonio had trouble finding work and feared his stepfather's family would try to kill him. So he broke back into jail by tearing down part of the prison wall.
He was then arrested for destruction of property and received a one-year sentence.
"To me, prison is the safest place," Antonio told Noticias.
"I don't want to live in jail, but at this stage in my life it's the best place I've found."

Sounds like the incentive to be a repeat offender. He was then arrested for destruction of property and received a one-year sentence.
A sufficiently copious dose of bombast drenched in verbose writing is lethal to the truth.

Hint: If you're conning the system, don't go on TV..
A woman who fraudulently claimed about £10,000 in benefits was caught after she appeared on the Channel 4 reality show Wife Swap.
Kelly Jones, 23, of Fishponds, Bristol, claimed to be a single mother when she was in fact living with her partner.
She admitted three counts of failing to notify authorities of her change in circumstances before Bristol magistrates on Wednesday.
The city council was tipped off after the programme was screened last June.
'Lazy mum'
Jones, who went by her maiden name Moyston when the show was filmed, was described in its promotional material as "a self-confessed lazy mum".
Her partner, now her husband, Steven Jones, a 40-year-old bus driver, also from Fishponds, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting his wife.
The offences happened between July 2008 and December 2009, the court heard.
The pair will be sentenced at a later date.

Why not give teh cops a helping hand...
The high-quality camera on Stephen Taylor's mobile phone gave him the perfect opportunity to show off three stolen watches he was trying to sell.
He draped the luxury items - together worth around £4,000 - across his hand and took a picture that he hoped would find him a buyer.
But his harnessing of technology was to prove his downfall after the photograph ended up with police when he was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
And a unique forensic examination has now produced damning proof of his guilt - in the most literal way imaginable.
The quality of the image officers found on his mobile phone was so good that specialist investigators were able to examine the hand holding the watches and say for certain it was Taylor's.
By analysing the distinctive ridges on the palm it took them less than an hour to conclusively link it to a handprint taken from the 29-year-old.
Yesterday he was facing a prison sentence after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods.

A sponging £200,000 benefits and tax cheat who said he could barely walk was rumbled after investigators found a certificate congratulating him for climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Self-employed painter Robert Johnson, 62, claimed £31,325 after telling benefits bosses he had crippling arthritis and had failed to pay a penny in taxes for the last 32 years.
But he was uncovered when investigators found the certificate for doing the gruelling three-and-a-half hour hike up one of the world's tallest bridges.

Despite claiming for the highest possible level of immobility, Johnson, from Tamworth, Staffs, completed the 1.74km guided journey 440ft above Sydney Harbour in 2007.
Birmingham Crown Court heard yesterday how Johnson had failed to claim the earnings from his successful business since 1975, netting £341,891 without paying any taxes. He should have given £172,428 of that to the taxman.
And in 1990, he also claimed to be so disabled he could not walk unaided, claiming Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Mobility Allowance and council tax benefits.
Rumbled: Robert Johnson, who was a self-employed painter and decorator, did not pay taxes for 32 years.
But the suspicions of fraud investigators were aroused when he registered as a contractor for the Construction Industry Scheme in 2005.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of Cheating the Public Revenue and five of dishonest claims at an earlier court hearing on April 29 this year. The court heard how Roberts had scammed a total of £203,753.

Nice work if you can get it...and not get caught...
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

A dopey thief has been arrested after breaking into a woman's home, stealing her mobile phone and then using it to 'sext' her.
New Yorker Marques Hoskins, 21, was caught within hours by police when he arranged a 'date' with his victim and was met by waiting officers instead.
Hoskins broke into the woman's apartment on West 21st Street, Manhattan, while she was taking her dog for a walk in the early hours of Sunday morning.
When she returned she found him sitting on her bed and using her laptop.
According to the New York Post, the pet scared the intruder away, but not before he'd stolen her wallet and mobile phone.
Using another phone, police later contacted the thief and he amazingly replied, demanding a $500 reward for the phone's return - and a date with his victim.
Hoskins was then stunned when Manhattan South Sergeant Samuel Panuccio was waiting at the romantic rendezvous, instead of his date.
He has been arrested for burglary and other related charges.
Hoskins isn't the only 'sexter' whose mobile phone behaviour has landed him in trouble.
Just a month ago Hiren Pinaken Shah, was arrested after accidentally sexting photos of himself and a female friend having sex to several contacts in the woman’s phone - including her mother and 14-year-old brother.
Shah, 22, from Atlanta, Georgia, was charged with felony child cruelty and two misdemeanours of having and distributing obscene materials.

Scuba-diving benefits pair Rose and Reginald Jones jailed
Rose Jones scuba diving Rose Jones was pictured scuba-diving while claiming disability benefits
A couple who fraudulently claimed more than £130,000 in disability benefits have been jailed after they were pictured scuba-diving abroad.
Rose Jones, 53, from Ramsgate in Kent, was jailed for 15 months after being convicted last month of 12 charges at Canterbury Crown Court.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said she had told them she was too disabled to open a bottle of wine.
Her former husband, Reginald Jones, 54, of Dover, was jailed for 18 months.
The ex-paratrooper was convicted of four charges of obtaining money transfer by deception, one of furnishing false information and two of dishonestly making false representation.
The court heard that when the DWP investigated, it found the couple had taken holidays for scuba-diving lessons to destinations including Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt, the Maldives and Indonesia.
The DWP said she falsely claimed £45,500 in incapacity benefit, £52,181 in disability living allowance, £15,975 in tax credits and £5,351 in carers allowance
