"I Don't Like Mondays" is a song by the Boomtown Rats that was a UK number one single for four weeks during the summer of 1979. Written by Bob Geldof, it was the band's second number one single.

According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California on 29 January 1979, killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime and her full explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day". The song was first performed less than a month later.
" It was such a senseless act. It was the perfect senseless act and this was the perfect senseless reason for doing it. So perhaps I wrote the perfect senseless song to illustrate it. It wasn't an attempt to exploit tragedy."

The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload
And nobody’s gonna go to school today
She’s gonna make them stay at home
And daddy doesn’t understand it
He always said she was good as gold
And he can see no reasons
'Cos there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be show-ow-ow-ow-own?

Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
I wanna shoo-oo-woo-woo-woo-oot the whole day down

The Telex machine is kept so clean
And it types to a waiting world
And mother feels so shocked
Father’s world is rocked
And their thoughts turn to their own little girl
Sweet 16 ain’t that peachy keen
Now that ain’t so neat to admit defeat
They can see no reasons
'Cuz there are no reasons
What reasons do you need?
Oh Oh oh whoa whoa

Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
I wanna shoo-oo-oo-woo-woo-oot
The whole day down, down, down, shoot it all down

And all the playing's stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with the toys a while
And school's out early and soon we'll be learning
And the lesson today is how to die
And then the bullhorn crackles
And the captain tackles
(With the problems of the how's and why's)
And he can see no reasons
'Cos there are no reasons
What reason do you need to die, die?
Oh Oh Oh

Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like
I don’t like (Tell me why)
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don’t like
I don’t like (Tell me why)
I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why
I don't like Mondays
I wanna shoo-oo-oo-woo-woo-woot the whole day down

The video didn't work for me, Gob ("The uploader has not made this video available in your country.")

I think this is the same video you posted, and apparently is IS available in My Country, so, hopefully, it will work for others in My Country...

You're excused for the pun....but not for the misplaced apostrophe!

Why is it that sometimes the Grammar Nazi image shows up, and other times it doesn't?

(At first I thought it was the work of the Image Nazis, but it reappears if you refresh the screen.)

On the evidence, No.

But don't feel bad dear. LJ, Gob and the Mag Genl will all join in, no matter how moronic you are, as long as you hate the same people they do.

Low standards are infectious that way.

Yes, I'll join in. rubato's post was an amusing addition to a brief sequence of jokes about language beginning with Econo's post about a misplaced apostrophe. The problems of comma usage are the entire point of the book title "Eats shoots and leaves". I see no justification for alleging that his post was a result of intoxication.

As to hatred rubato, you may rest assured that I have no such feeling in regard to any poster. I do so enjoy poking fun at pompous windbaggery, including (and perhaps especially) my own.

I briefly played bass in a band called "The Roomtown Bats", nobody came to see us in error.

Nobody came to see us at all. That was alright though, we were REAL punks!
