For your further consideration, I suggest that most of the problems related here in this thread about work in a hospital or nursing home directly relate to the cultural changes that have moved health care from a community shared charitable concern to a profit-based corporate remote owner setting.
There also seems to be a change in the federal rules for 'non-profit' entities that results in salaries for the top managers that are no different from salaries in similar for-profit businesses.

Re: I quit
This has always been the case, especially in hospitals which are dominated by tax exempt entities. The only significant change occurred about 20 years ago when key employee compensation had to be set under a documented and pre-approved basis.Burning Petard wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 3:27 pm

Re: I quit
Not only non profits, 501c3 charities that can solicit donations do it as well. I recall once the being the department arm twister for United Way (a job no one wanted) in the late 80s when the compensation of their CEO (which included apartments in major cities and, as I recall, private jet service) came to light and many just refused to donate. It ended their extortion tactics in conjunction with employers--for some reason many employers really wanted the 100% participation designation; I recall donating $1.00 a month for years just to shut them up. But I recall a friend who worked for a utility that was putting extreme pressure on employees to donating their "Fair Share" (which was something like 5% of your salary before taxes). It took a lot of donations to pay the big salaries and benefits.
I don't know if any companies still do the annual arm twist, but I haven't seen it after the scandal broke.

Re: I quit
When I worked for Boring, they had their own charity fund which dispersed money to a variety of charities including the Untied Way. The arm twisting was rampant. Bosses all wanted 100% participation. I balked. You might notice that I don't work there anymore.
