Name That Movie!
Re: Name That Movie!
Jim--if you don't mind a couple of hints--it's more of a coming of age movie than a romantic comedy, and a fairly sad one at that, showing what happens to our childish dreams when we have to grow up (A little like the Return of the Secaucus Seven or The Big Chill) that works. It also is one of the few Meg Ryan movies I can stand (Joes versus the Volcano, surprisingly (to me at least) is the other).
Re: Name That Movie!
LJ and BigRR -- if you didn't think When Harry Met Sally funny, I'm worried that you have no soul..... (and I'm not a fan of RomComs, either).

Re: Name That Movie!
It's definitely NOT a comedy.
If everyone agrees that they give up, I'll post another one.

Re: Name That Movie!
My definition of "Chick Flick" maybe different from some...Jim--if you don't mind a couple of hints--it's more of a coming of age movie than a romantic comedy, and a fairly sad one at that,
Most romcoms would fit, but not all; especially if they're heavier on the "comedy" than the "romance"...(I wouldn't call Meet The Fockers a "chick flick" for example...I thought that one was hilarious...especially Robert De Niro)
On the other hand, plenty of "sad" movies would fit if they are of the maudlin, relationship focused, soap opera variety...
Anything described as a "three hanky movie", is definitely a chick flick in my book...
I've never seen When Harry Met Sally, but I have seen the clip of the restaurant scene, and I'll admit that scene at least was hysterical...
I believe Big RR knows the answer, and he hasn't done one for a while...Big RR wrote:Jim--if you don't mind a couple of hints--it's more of a coming of age movie than a romantic comedy, and a fairly sad one at that, showing what happens to our childish dreams when we have to grow up (A little like the Return of the Secaucus Seven or The Big Chill) that works. Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Meg Ryan - Sleepless in Seattle; French Kiss? Those were fun. Of course LJ wouldn't see 'em - he's too busy tapping his nose and nudging people over "Meet the Fokkers" - geddit? Fokkers? Heh, heh... sounds like.....

Well, I knew that was Strop's idea of a "three hanky movie", but I didn't know it was yours...Crackpot wrote:Or a porno.....Lord Jim wrote:Anything described as a "three hanky movie", is definitely a chick flick in my book...

Meet the Fokkers:

ETA:
Actually I made a mistake; it was really the first one in the serious, Meet The Parents that I was thinking of that was hilarious...
The second one, (that brought in Hoffman and Streisand) was a lot weaker...

Re: Name That Movie!
Is it "Puss in Boots"?
"Grumpy Cat's Worse Christmas Ever"?
Why doesn't the cat use the litter box?

Re: Name That Movie!
How bizarre, I just watched this movie on Amazon Prime a month ago for the first (and only) time. I needed the hint naming the four stars, didn't get it by the quote alone.

Re: Name That Movie!
You got it BSG. Do you remember the quote now that you think about it?
What's next?
I had to look it up to know who the "unknown" actors were. Gedrick works, a lot. Although I remember Michael J Fox's girlfriend from Family Ties, where she played his girlfriend, I didn't know her name.

Yes, now that I've pinpointed the movie, I do recall the quote. I have to say, Meg Ryan's role was most distasteful, I thought.
Give me a minute and I'll post a new quote.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that.

I think that's from the original "Rocky", the one without the moose.
BTW, Mrs Mc asked me about your former avatar. Unless that was really you, I like the change.

Re: Name That Movie!
I remember the first "Rocky" movie but I don't remember quite so long a monologue... so after BSG said that MG was correct with the original "Rocky" I cheated and googled it. According to Google (and also the IMDb) the quote is actually from "Rocky Balboa" (2006), which is/was the 6th installment of the Rocky franchise, and not the 1976 movie.
MG should probably post the next quote, and we as a group need to be a little more sure of where we are getting our quotes.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: Name That Movie!
Since I was technically incorrect, and BB caught it, I think BSG should go again. I didn't remember which Rocky it was from, and just guessed it was #1. Apparently it was #6. Was that the one with Bullwinkle?
