Starbucks cups; then the dragon fire holocaust, which could be seen as an example of lack-luster scriptwriting — a "rocks fall, everyone dies" moment, if you will; and now a plastic water bottle?
One would almost get the idea that the showrunners and producers just didn't give a shit about it any more and were just mailing it in.

BSG, this is a pretty good article (IMO). It argues the case for reading books based on character rather than TV shows based on plot. That the TV writers short-handed 7 & 8 is fairly clear - they had a bunch of aging actors wanting to move on and waiting for GRRM to actually write his way out of the tangle was not on. So, no character development and a lot of "Shazaam! Then THIS happens".
