Re: Hey January
BigRR, we'll have to agree to disagree about where the SB should be played. A few years ago there was a big blizzard in Detroit right before the SB was played there (domed stadium of course). I think there has been more than one SB in Detriot although I am not sure on that.
This could either turn out to be a good SB or a crappy on,e either from the weather, the teams play or both. It could put an end to outdoor cold weather sites or put Green Bay and Chicago on the radar for hosting one.
Time will tell.
I did hear that there wil be no tailgaiting allowed. You will be confined to your own parking spot with no grills, no lounge chairs, no big parties.
No fun of any kind. Althouhg I can see that as there will be many people there trying to park.
At any game there are people that go just to tailgait. No tickets or going into the stadium, they tailgate and watch the game on HDTV in the parking lot. Whateve floats their boat.

Well it is 14F. Not that cold really, it hasn't gotten really cold here in nearly 30 years. Just cold enough to make people crazy.

Re: Hey January
Getting ready for a few inches of snow. It's right around freezing here so the roads should suck for the commute home. To all those people who drive 5mph with your flashers on, GET OFF THE ROAD!!! If youa re too afraid to drive in the snow and need to put on flashers telling everyone you are scared, stay home, stay at work drive on the back streets, but stay off the main highways.
Re: Hey January
I might remind oldr that people who are frightened of driving in the snow/ice face the same challenges daily that you do, such as needing to get to work to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table etc. They may not see well, they may be older, there are many reasons why they too find it necessary to be on the highway (for which they also pay taxes). Perhaps you would do better by learning some patience with your fellow man and slow your impatient self down a bit.
Re: Hey January
Personally I would prefer people who drive slowly and carefully in snow to what would typically happen in the DC area on the roads when it snowed...
Lots of people would make absolutely no adjustments for the road conditions, so within a couple of hours of the first flakes falling every major traffic artery in the metro area would be tied up thanks to the multiple accidents and spin outs from these ying yangs...
I'd rather have it take a little longer to get where I'm going because some people may be driving in what seems to be an overly cautious manner, then to be stuck not moving at all for hours in a traffic jam caused by some "road warrior" who didn't think the rules of common sense precautions applied to them...(An experience I had more than once)

Quiet (non-windy) snow today, 29 degrees, rather pretty.

My bad.
Sorry
Re: Hey January
There's nothing wrong with what you said, oldr. It's okay to be pissed off about people that are slowing everyone else down on the road and making your life miserable as you try to get from here to there.oldr_n_wsr wrote:Point taken.Perhaps you would do better by learning some patience with your fellow man and slow your impatient self down a bit.

You just can't say that out loud (or write it) around people who think you should not say how you feel because somebody might have their feelings hurt.
Those people would dictate that you should have written your thoughts like this:
Golly! This snowy weather makes it difficult for me to drive my vehicle. I believe the reason for that is because there are many hardworking people who are extremely cautious in this weather because of their limited driving ability. Some of them may even be elderly or possess a disability that requires them to drive slowly which results in traffic moving much more slowly and safely. Bless their hearts!
I wish with all my heart that those people were able to work from home and/or not need to drive when there is inclement weather. It would be much easier on them and make this whole world a better place for all of us.
Re: Hey January
Well now I see we have blowing and drifting here turning what was not so much snow into a mess in some spots. I also had about 10K starlings land in the yard which surely is a sign of some sort. I sent the dog out to disperse the crowd. It caused a flap.

Re: Hey January
I had a fairly harrowing drive up the NJ Turnpike this morning through the worst of today's snow, but I had built in plenty of extra time (nearly an extra hour for what is ordinarily about a 90-minute trip) and arrived right on time. For most of the way only one lane was really driveable, as the snow was coming down too hard and piling up too quickly in the less-traveled lanes, making them very slippy. On the way back two hours later, the salt trucks had been through and the roadway was all clear, and with the light traffic I was back to the office in about 1:15. Looks like we got maybe another 3 inches or so stuck to the ground here, but the sun is out now so I think we're done for today. Not too bad.
GAH!

When I drive in those conditions I swear that were I to strategically place a lump of coal 'twixt the buttcheeks I would have a diamond at the end of the trip.Sue U wrote:I had a fairly harrowing drive up the NJ Turnpike this morning through the worst of today's snow, but I had built in plenty of extra time (nearly an extra hour for what is ordinarily about a 90-minute trip) and arrived right on time. Glad it went safely for you Sue.

face palm & head shake, aimed at the 2 above the last...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: Hey January
What pisses me off are the people who insist on driving 10mph on the only clear lane on the expressway. there is no reason to do so if you can't handle it there are plenty of surface streets to get you where you need going.
I still remember one day where it took me 2 hours to get three quarters of the way to work due to this jackass driving. Until I gave up got off the expressway and made it home in less than a half hour.

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Hey January
It's been in the low 20's at night here, which isn't bad by New England standards, but it's pretty cold for NoCal. Especially when it's been going for over a week and both your residence and workplace are not insulated. At all. Both have working furnaces (thankfully!), but no insulation. The shop was 43F this morning when I got here; five and half hours later the heat has been on non-stop and it's rocketed all the way to 60F! I look a little like the Michelin man in my winter woolies and fleece...
Pray for rain.

Re: Hey January
Yikes kristina -- that's a bit too cold for indoors -- except for at night, when you're under a pile of flannel and goose down. Which I assume you don't have in NorCal . . .
Snowed all day today, but didn't accumulate much until the end -- I had to shovel the steps but the driveway was a skating rink when I left of a 7PM meeting.

Re: Hey January
It's been as low as -45C (-49F) outside my house recently. (With the windchill) Currently a balmy -25C (-13F) with the windchill right now. I still need to shovel my walk, got about 10 or 12 inches of snow on it yet. I'll need my coat!
Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.

Arena teams SHOULD be penalized when playing against real football teams! I would love a Super Bowl in Green Bay or Buffalo.
