This sounds about right to me....
  • What did Putin want from Trump?
    • 1. Wreck NATO
      2. Pull U.S. military out of Eastern Europe
      3. Push Britain to exit Eurozone
      4. Promote anti-immigrant nationalism in Europe
      5. Promote right-wing regimes in Europe
      6. Accept legitimacy of Russian claim to Crimea
      7. Give Russia full say over Syria and Assad
      8. Pull out of Paris climate accord
      9. Increase world oil and gas prices
      10. End economic sanctions against Russia
      11. Undermine democracy everywhere, especially in the U.S.

What did Trump want from Putin?

    • 1. Help winning the 2016 election
      2. Money from Putin’s oligarch friends for Trump’s businesses
      3. Anything else?

What will they talk about when they meet privately on Monday?

    • 1. How the deal is working out.

    2. Future deals.

Must be the season of the witch:
US charges Russian national with being a foreign agent

By David Shortell, Marshall Cohen and Adam Levine, CNN

Updated 6:21 PM ET, Mon July 16, 2018

Washington (CNN)The Justice Department charged a Russian national who, along with her mentor, aimed to set up backchannel communications between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with conspiring against the US as a secret agent.

Mariia Butina, also known as Maria, who was involved with a Russian gun group that the National Rifle Association was supportive of, was arrested on Sunday and appeared in court in Washington, DC to Monday, according to the Justice Department.

The arrest is the latest dizzying development related to Russia in recent days and revealed only about three hours after President Donald Trump's press conference in Helsinki in which he shocked the world by siding with Vladimir Putin rather than his own intelligence agencies regarding election meddling by Russia's spy agencies in the 2016.

The charges were filed by prosecutors from the Justice Department's national security division. They came just three days after special counsel Robert Mueller's office Friday indicted 12 members of Russia's military intelligence service the GRU over a hacking and influence operation.

Yet another non-funny, repulsive abuse of language

My (olde English) father hated the repulsive abuse of the "fuck" word. I don't recall ever hearing him use it, only ranting and raving and getting purple-faced when he heard it. Always seeking the moral high ground. What a guy.

Ironically, he never hesitated to belittle and debase his wife when she disagreed with him, nor did it ever stop him from beating the kids -- often with the buckle end of his belt -- when he thought he was being disrespected.

A hearty "fuck you" would have been so much nicer than welts on my back.

He was a very sick man.

And neither would have been even better

Feds: Russia Is Still Engaged in 'Information Warfare'

Image

Trump administration officials today—including FBI Director Christopher Wray, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen—warned the American public that Russia continues to target political campaigns and spread misinformation ahead of the midterm elections.

"We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States," DNI Coats said during today's White House press briefing. "We also know the Russians try to hack into and steal information from candidates and government officials alike."

"Our democracy itself is in the crosshairs," Secretary Nielsen added. "Our adversaries ... seek to sow discord and undermine our way of life [and] have shown they have the willingness and capability to interfere in our elections."

According to Director Wray, the Russians are not currently targeting election infrastructure like voter registration databases. Instead, they're conducting "malign influence operations, [or] information warfare."

That could change in an instant, Coats warned. "We're only one keyboard click away from finding out something that we haven't seen up to this particular point in time," he said, a sentiment echoed by Director Wray.

The briefing comes a few weeks after Microsoft revealed that it recently stopped an effort to hack three US candidates up for election this year. According to The Daily Beast, one of those targets was Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a New Hampshire Democrat up for re-election in 2020, also said on Face the Nation last week that people in her office have received "phishing e-mails with social media accounts," and that authorities are looking into it.

Today, Coats declined to say which campaigns have been targeted by the Russians. The information, he said, is processed through the House and Senate, so he is "not in a position to release those names."

Yesterday, security and social media experts issued a similar warning on Capitol Hill. The success of the Russians, they said, have emboldened leaders around the world. Dr. Philip Howard, director of the Oxford Internet Institute, told the Senate Intelligence Committee that his research has "found evidence of formally organized social media manipulation campaigns in 48 countries, up from 28 countries" in 2017.

This is nice to see, but one would think that with something as grave and dire as this the President himself would have wanted to be the on that stage...

But he's too busy sending tweets about how the whole Russia investigation is the result of Bob Mueller being unhappy about his country club fees...

"We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States," Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, said on August 2.
Right you are Dan...

I would like to alert you to one of the most active agents of this campaign; you need to issue an arrest warrant ASAP, he was at it again just yesterday:
Hours after White House warns of new election meddling, Trump again points to 'Russian hoax'

Image

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — It’s still a “hoax” to President Donald Trump.

Just hours after the nation’s top intelligence officials warned about Moscow’s efforts to disrupt a second consecutive American election, Trump said at a campaign rally here Thursday night that his diplomatic efforts with President Vladimir Putin “are being hindered by the Russian hoax.”

The two events created a split-screen effect: America's intelligence experts warning voters that Russia is trying to undermine democracy while Trump tells them it's all political chicanery.

Several of Trump’s top lieutenants — National Security Adviser John Bolton, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen, FBI Director Christopher Wray and National Security Agency chief Gen. Paul Nakasone — described the threat in the White House briefing room.

“Russia attempted to interfere with the last election and continues to engage in malign influence operations to this day,” Wray said.

But Trump, whose operation is under federal investigation for possible collusion with Russia and obstruction of justice, swiftly contradicted his advisers’ conclusion in the midst of thousands of boisterous supporters here.

"In Helsinki, I had a great meeting with Putin," he said. "We discussed everything — I had a great meeting. We got along really well. By the way, that's a good thing, not a bad thing. That's a really good thing. Now we're being hindered by the Russian hoax. It's a hoax, OK? I'll tell you what, Russia's very unhappy that Trump won, that I can tell you."

In Helsinki, Putin said that he had hoped Trump would win the 2016 presidential election.

Trump was in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday to try to energize Republican voters before the very midterms that his aides say are under attack by Russia.

During the week you can probably nab him if you set up a stakeout at his hideout at:

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
Washington, DC

(O the weekends he's usually holed up at one of his safe houses in New Jersey or Florida...)
