trump admin could deem those same people as non essential and still leave many parks (or seashores) open, albeit unsupervised.
Oh that's bloody brilliant, that is...

Nobody to collect the fees that pay for the up-keep of the parks...

Nobody to call for help when some idiot decides to pet a bear, or some kid falls down a ravine (or gets lost)...

Nobody to stop hunters from going on an illegal hunting spree, nobody to prevent vandalism, or dangerous fires from being set, nobody to maintain the bathrooms or pick up the trash, or prevent illegal dumping...

Nobody to break up the drunken fist fights that would inevitably ensue when campers fought over campsites, because there was nobody to assign the sites....

Say, I've got another idea just as good as that one...

They could also keep all the Smithsonian Museums open unsupervised, and just trust everybody not to steal anything... :ok

Smithsonian Institution is NOT run by the federales. It came as a gift to the American people personally from a Brit named Smithson. The rules are complicated.

But our brilliant American congress has solved this 'closing' problem in typical fashion--they kicked the can down the road for one week.

The Smithsonian receives 2/3 of its annual budget from the federal government, and many (I don't know the ratio) of its employees are regular federal civil service employees.

So yes, they would be impacted by a shut down.

They were closed in 2013; no reason to think they wouldn't be now:
Smithsonian Statement: Federal Government Shutdown
October 4, 2013

Due to the federal government shutdown, all Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo are closed. Museum and National Zoo programming and events are also canceled.

The National Zoo live-animal cameras, including the panda cam, are not broadcasting. All the animals will continue to be fed and cared for at the National Zoo. A shutdown will not affect the Zoo’s commitment to the safety of staff and the standard of excellence in animal care.

The National Gallery Of Art would also be closed...

jim, obviously museums and such couldn t be unsupervised, and I never said "all" I said "many"

...and don t be such a pussy.

just because you can t go to the beach or walk thru the woods without Big Brother or Mommy, don t think that everyone is so helpless.

maybe the govt should seize all wilderness and beach areas in the land , to assure public safety.... ????

you astound me sometimes.

Reagan would hang his head in sorrow...... :)
