and FWIW, I recall my dad telling me that when he was in London (67 or 68) they used to play GSTQ before each movie in the London theaters; I recall something similar for the Star Spangled Banner in the early 60s, but it stopped well before 67/8.

I think it stopped sometime around 1970. I don't think it was any change in the law: I think probably one theatre stopped and the sky didn't fall in, so others followed. More time for the really important stuff like running ads.

I also recall TV stations in the US having a tape of the Star Spangled Banner when they went on the air and when they signed off each day. I'm not sure if this ended or if the stations just stayed on the air 24/7.
