People whose greatest hope is to be someone else or to be somewhere else can be a little desperate. Pathetic?
For a lot of people life has not worked out as they hoped. This is just something to bridge the hours. A little temporal suicide.
If we're only going to live 78 years (or whatever) why is it not suicide to kill a year or ten in the middle like it is at the end?
