From this. To this.
Re: From this. To this.
This one is so bad I can't find an "official" video (sound quality VEEERRRY poor which may actually be merciful).
ETA:4/26/12 Guess they were so embarrassed they took it off...
Now it's back up?

Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is

I always thought these were gay, but that don't mean nothing...

I'm torn:

In my opinion one of the best covers of all time. So much so that even Dylan himself started preforming the song in Hendrixs' style.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; then for the original artist to do that is high praise indeed.*
*(Not to mention more than a bit ironic.)

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

No wonder David chose jail and hunger strikes

Re Meade's post:
Shame on Joan Baez...
What kind of artistic courage does it take to do a remake of a song when you know in advance that no matter how bad you stink, you can't possibly be any worse than the original?

Re: From this. To this.
off topic but I ran across this when looking for the earlier videos...
IS THAT LEMMY?!!!?!!!
IS THAT LEMMY?!!!?!!!
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: From this. To this.
Yep, that's Mr Kilmister.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
Re: From this. To this.
which begs the question what the hell is he doing in that video?

Re: From this. To this.
Yes, you saw what you think you saw: That's Lemmy himself playing the leader of the evil cowboy gang. How do you suppose that happened? Was he a friend of the director's? Did the band specifically request his presence? Did they pay him? Motörhead were doing okay in '86, when this was released—they'd celebrated their 10th anniversary the previous year with the No Remorse compilation and the classic single "Killed By Death," and were about to release Orgasmatron, an album whose title track is a metal anthem to this day. They were in no danger of losing "cred," a concept Lemmy's never really believed in too strongly anyway. This is a guy who's appeared on the British sitcom The Young Ones, in the sci-fi movie Hardware, and in a porn movie starring John Wayne Bobbitt, after all. So he probably shrugged it off as a fun way to spend an afternoon, wandering around the British woods with a cowboy hat and a gun.

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain, ha ha ha
You cunt, I'm not a queer
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's fool
And each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
But dig, what I have to do
I'll see it through with no devotion
Of that, take care and just
Be careful thought along the highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
There were times, I'm sure you knew
When there was nothing fucking else to do
But through it all, when there was doubt
I shot it up, or kicked it outI fought the war
And did it my way
I've knocked out in bed last night
I've had my fill, my share of looting
And now, the tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think, I killed a cat
And may I say, oh no, not their way
"But no, no, not me"
"I did it my way"
For what is a brat, what has he got
When he finds out that he cannot
Say the things he truly thinks
But only the words, not what he feels
The record shows, I've got no clothes
And did it my way
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
MGM. ALL THESE COVERS AND REMAKES...
... and so far you have not mention Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" even once. What about these guys below? I'm a big Cohen fan but I must admit that I prefer Buckley's version better. Then Cohen, and "the other royal Canadian", Crowe. I often find it quite nice that music that I can 'feel' is worthy of someone else's interpretation.

Jeff Buckley

Allison Crowe
Sheryl Crow

Too easy, that's why. Mind you, have you heard all versions that Cohen has recorded and . . . Buckley changed the words to soften them for his girlie listeners

Original, Jim Steinman & Rory Dodd: (Audio is good but vid quality sucks...sorry.)
Better-known cover, Meat Loaf:
(Yes, this is the source for my signature. Yes, that is a teenaged Angelina Jolie in the second video.)
