You believe a politician meant what they said???? Wanna buy a bridge? :loon

Yes, but she's a left-wing politician...

They're far more honest...

At least they think so... 8-)

"What the Senator really meant to say was this..." 8-)

More like, "Exactly what she said and didn't say, was this..."

Or more more like, "Using a hypothetical to introduce a question is not the same as making a statement of fact."

Or more like, "Asking a question is not the same as making a statement."

I couldn't find any further direct quotes from Warren at that particular Senate hearing, but this story (from International Business Times) does report further on what was said, and includes a YouTube clip of approximately five minutes of the hearing.

After Sen. Warren asked that question, the witness she was addressing (Dr. Arindrajit Dube of UMass-Amherst) said as part of his reply, "Had the minimum wage grown at the same page as income is going to the top 1 percent of the taxpayers, the minimum wage would have stood at $33 before the recession.” (AHA! So you might want to switch to accusing her of favoring a $33 minimum wage, rather than just $22. ;) )

According to the IBT story, "Warren then went on to say that if the minimum wage were raised to $10 an hour over the next three years, price increases for restaurants would be negligible. Warren cited projections which show that price of a McDonald’s "No. 11 meal" would rise only 4 cents from $7.19 to $7.23." (Wait...why is she saying $10 an hour if what she's really "in fact" saying is $22 an hour????? :? )

I should also note that the IBT's headline agrees with you: "US Minimum Wage Should Be $22 An Hour, Says Elizabeth Warren"...but the final paragraph of the very same news story agrees with me:
It’s worth noting that Warren wasn’t exactly arguing that the United States immediately adopt a $22 minimum wage. Instead, she was illustrating that over the years, the country has failed to provide a solid livable wage for workers earning the minimum wage. Warren’s comments were in support of Obama’s recent calls for a $9 minimum wage.
I have a feeling we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this, Jim.

P.S. Of course, if Elizabeth Warren really HAS been advocating for "tying an increase in the minimum wage to a dollar for dollar increase in worker productivity", as you say, then you shouldn't have any trouble proving me wrong by finding a number of OTHER quotes where she says exactly that, clearly and unequivocally...right?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Yes, and in reviewing your latest post, I think we're probably at that point...

And if we don't take that course, (agree to disagree) things could get rather ugly, which I don't think either of us wants; I believe that both of us likes and respects each other, and would prefer not to see this go down that road...

So I am prepared to drop this discussion right here and now...

ETA:

(And I feel strongly enough about ending this that if you want to take the last shot, go ahead; I won't respond... )
