This wasn't the vote, just the nominating process. The vote is later.

Sorry, Dales, you were the 4th to do so.
Fwiw, none of those actions took place in 2016, and it's the 2016 award.......

But I think this was intended to substitute for the first round of the voting that we had last year with a poll and anonymous voting, (which was then followed by a second round with the "finalists" to pick the winner)

When we were discussing this over the weekend, I suggested to Joe that I thought this approach would suppress overall participation, and he agreed to revisit it if that's what seemed to happen...

And I think when you make the comparison to participation in the first round last year under the other format, revisiting is in order... 8-)

ETA:

The link I provided is to the thread for last years first round; there was a second thread for the final round.

The 4th Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016 Update
It has been brought to my attention that the participation rate for this year's revised nomination process is somewhat less than it has been in past years. As I take all suggestions as seriously as they might be even if they aren't, I've decided to extend the date for the The Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016 nomination deadline.

I believe that the lack of involvement is not because of the new process, it is because all of our regular posters simply have not been here. That's my official opinion.

Therefore, in the interest of increasing participation, nominations for The Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016 will continue to be accepted until 12PM Pacific Standard Time, Friday, January 13, 2017. (yes, friday the 13th)

All comments on this action will be entertaining.

The 4th Anal Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016

Post by RayThom »

To the Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award Rules Committee,
The Peebies do not necessarily have to coincide nor compete with the marginally revered and/or watched Hollywood celebrity award season. There's no need to slap-dash and haphazardly put this prestigious ceremony together with the possibility of overlooking the outstanding contributions of those who may be more deserving of recognition.

Good things take time -- you know wesw is not going anywhere fast.

No, dales. It's the X3 that is rejected. I officially interpreted that to mean 3 votes for AndrewD, which is not allowed from one person.

Your one vote stands.

To RayThom - your appreciation and understanding of the relevance and importance of The Plan B Person of the Year Award has not gone unnoticed. If more of the Plan B membership had your character and insight, we'd have more people like you.

REJECTED?
Because she was casting all three votes for one person. I'm assuming Joe has counted one vote from BSG for Andrew, and she has two left.

As I have only made one nomination -- the Plan B Administrators --- I also nominate:

rubato, for being mentioned in more threads than anyone else

and

Crackpot, since he clearly wants to be on the list and no one else nominated him (except some masochistic ass).

Once again you've shown lack of respect and utter contempt toward the rules that I've established for the Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award process. If this continues, I will be forced to respond.

Was that a required criteria?

I could go back to my original plan, which was to nominate 3 random usernames who never posted at all in 2016.

Nope. The criteria seem to be whatever Joe says they are at any given moment.

I thought the criteria included being an active poster in 2016? Andrew D, as much as I think him deserving of honor, hasn't posted since January 2014.

ETA: Also, I nominate Scooter, because he hasn't been nominated yet, I think.

Well we might as well start getting used to the inconsistent, arbitrary rule of a single person, given what will be happening soon. this board is just a microcosm of the country.

Do we know that AndrewD is actually deceased? His later posts suggested he had some kind of connective tissue or auto-immune disorder many of which are pretty awful. I am sorry to hear it.

It appears to be true:

It has been an eventful and not very good year and a half for me so it's not surprising that this slipped by. Only 52, a youngster. Brilliant but lacking in the kind of social skills which get you made partner in a major firm.

I'd make him person of the year for 2016 because he should have been for 2015.

yrs,
rubato

(I have much longer and better hair, btw, but I respect that he was a person of hair.)

While their certainly seems to be a bit of that, 8-) I have to defend Joe on this "voting for groups" thing...

I don't have any strong feelings about it, (just so long as if you cast your vote for some "group" you're only allowed to cast one vote for the "group" you designate just as though they were an individual person; if you could stack all three of your votes for the "group" that would give the "group" an unfair numerical advantage. They would have to be treated like an individual) but I don't believe it's ever been done before.

Also, if we're going to be able to vote for a "group" like "The Admins" shouldn't people also be able to vote for a "group" like "All the Posters Over 70" or "The Hot Lawyer Chicks"? 8-)

Yeah, that occurred to me too, but I wasn't going to mention it.... :?

For those of you who are new to this - The Plan B Person of the Year must be a person who has posted here at Plan B in 2016. That eliminates Adam & Eve and other non-members. The Plan B Person of the Year doesn't have to be a popular person like wesw isn't. Think Adolf Hitler, Time Magazine Man of the Year 1938.
Maybe we can get an exception for votes for posters who are deceased...
