There have already been Republicans (including Andrew Card) whose comments have been along the lines of "Ok, but this is going to create a greater risk of attacks".
It's one thing to acknowledge that there might be retaiiation (which Obama himself did in his speech), it's quite another to insinuate that the President has made Americans less safe through this action.

I see what you are saying, but I think there's a big difference between celebrating taking out an enemy who killed thousands of your people (which I see as akin to V-E and V-J Day celebrations) and celebrating the intentional massacre of innocent civilians.

VE and VJ day were celebrations of an end to war as opposed to celebrations of death. These celebrations will have the same effect on Bin Laden's followers as those 10 years ago had on Americans.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has welcomed the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.
In a Canberra press conference two hours after US President Barack Obama announced Bin Laden's death, the Prime Minister thanked the US Forces who carried out the operation north of Islamabad. In an echo of the US President's comments, Prime Minister Gillard said that "justice has been done." "I welcome the death of Osama Bin Laden. I welcome this news" she said.
The Prime Minister also confirmed the government is updating travel advisories, warning Australians abroad to "exercise enhanced vigilance in terms of their personal security." The Federal Opposition has also responded to the operation, with Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop saying Bin Laden's death would be "welcomed by nations including Australia whose citizens have been targeted by Al-Qaeda or groups inspired by its radical Jihadism."
May 2 (Reuters) - The death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will bring "great relief" across the world, British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Monday.
"Osama bin Laden was responsible for the worst terrorist atrocities the world has seen -- for 9/11 and for so many attacks, which have cost thousands of lives, many of them British. It is a great success that he has been found and will no longer be able to pursue his campaign of global terror," Cameron said in a statement. "The news that Osama bin Laden is dead will bring great relief to people across the world," he said http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/ ... 1U20110502

Details are emerging of how al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was found and killed at a fortified compound on the outskirts of Abbottabad in north-west Pakistan.
It is just 800 yards from the Pakistan Military Academy, an elite military training centre, which correspondents say is Pakistan's equivalent to Britain's Sandhurst military training academy.
The compound lies within Abbottabad's military cantonment - it is likely the area would have had a constant and significant military presence and checkpoints.
The operation began at about 2230 (1730GMT) and lasted around 45 minutes, military sources told BBC Urdu. Two or three helicopters were seen flying low over the area. Witnesses say it caused panic among local residents.
Barbed wire
The target of the operation was the compound, which had at its centre a large three-storey building.
When the helicopters landed outside, men emerged from the aircraft and spoke to locals in Pashto.
People living in an area known as Tanda Choha were told to to switch off their lights and not to leave their homes.
Shortly afterwards residents heard shots being fired and the sound of heavy firearms.
At some point in the operation one of the helicopters crashed after being hit by gunfire from the ground, reports say. Locals residents say that helicopter wreckage is visible in the area now.
The compound was about 3,000 sq yards but people from the area told the BBC that it was surrounded by walls 14 feet high, so not much could be seen of what was happening inside.
The walls were topped by barbed wire and had cameras.
There were two security gates at the house and no phone or internet lines running into the compound, the Associated Press (AP) reports.
After the operation witnesses said all they could see was flames snaking up from inside the house.
The forces conducting the operation later emerged from the compound, possibly with somebody who had been inside.
They said that women and children were also living in the compound.
One local resident told the BBC Urdu service that the house was built by a Pashtun man about 10 or 12 years ago and he said that none of the locals were aware of who was really living there.
Intelligence officials in the US are quoted by AP as saying that the house was custom-built to harbour a major "terrorist" figure.
It says CIA experts analysed whether it could be anyone else but they decided it was almost certainly Bin Laden.
Pakistani troops arrived at the scene after the attack was over and they have now completely taken over the area.
BBC correspondents say US troops were probably operating out of a base used by US Marines in Tarbela Ghazi, an area close to Abbottaba

The Pakistani military was completely clueless that he was a fucking half mile from their doorstep?
It's time to officially reclassify Pakistan as the enemy and bomb the entire country back into the stone age. No fucking way high ups in the military and/or gov't didn't know about this.

Who are the Aussies going to beat at cricket if they do that?

Pssst Jim....that was Wales, not Aus. And rugby, not cricket. But good try...

An even more telling clue for intelligence operatives: The occupants of the house were burning their trash rather than putting it out for collection.
Gee, and I thought that was ground squirrels living in the tunnels under my house!

Good. A moment of great practical and symbolic importance for us. I hope they use the fact that he had built such an elaborate security system for himself out of cowardice and selfishness. A rat dug out of its den. It was built in '06, long after the attack on Afghanistan, I will venture that it was his money and designs funneled through someone else.

You forget they have nukes.
I am interested to see how the pakistani govt reacts to this, considering their stepped up rhetoric about the US not informing them of thier actions in reccent months in contrast to this revelation.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
One imagines that the gov of Pakistan are well-pleased that President Obama did not overly praise them, regardless of their degree of complicity or otherwise in hiding Osama or helping the USA. It does give them room to deflect criticism from the less-radical of their population who will nevertheless be outraged by this news. Plausible deniability is a welcome refuge, especially for scoundrels.
I wonder if the fact of Osama's demise (shame!) will not be less anger-inducing than the dumping of his body in the ocean, even if it was a "moslem" service. Apparently this may be the procedure: http://www.seaservices.com/Muslim.htm
If a person dies on a ship and if there is no fear of the decay of the dead body and if there is no problem in retaining it for sometime on the ship, it should be kept on it and buried in the ground after reaching the land. Otherwise, after giving Ghusl, Hunut, Kafan and Namaz-e-Mayyit it should be lowered into the sea in a vessel of clay or with a weight tied to its feet. And as far as possible it should not be lowered at a point where it is eaten up immediately by the sea predators

"If a man dies on a ship that is a long distance from land, then the dead man should be buried at the sea," said Shiite cleric Ibrahim al-Jabari. "But if he dies on land, then he should be buried in the ground, not to be thrown into the sea. Otherwise, this would be only inviting fish to a banquet."
According to Islamic teachings, the highest honor to be bestowed on the dead is giving the deceased a swift burial, preferably before sunset. Those who die while traveling at sea can have their bodies committed to the bottom of the ocean if they are far off the coast, according to Islamic tradition.
"They can say they buried him at sea, but they cannot say they did it according to Islam," Mohammed al-Qubaisi, Dubai's grand mufti, said about bin Laden's burial. "If the family does not want him, it's really simple in Islam: You dig up a grave anywhere, even on a remote island, you say the prayers and that's it."
"Sea burials are permissible for Muslims in extraordinary circumstances," he added. "This is not one of them."

I don't give a shit if dumping his body at sea is criticized by some of the Muslim faith. NO WAY NO HOW should we have created a potential shrine to that rat fuck murdering bastard anywhere on this earth.
Let's talk about the over 1100 victims that didn't get recovered from Ground Zero, shall we? Where's their proper burial?
STFU about Bin Laden's burial at sea, is my .02 on the issue.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Don't hold back BSG - tell us what you really think! How about if they'd brought him back and buried him somewhere in New York - say.... then when his homies come to worship at the shrine, we can zap 'em!
