Name That Movie!
Re: Name That Movie!
I'll have to check that one out - but no, it's not the answer. Also wasn't released around the same time as Good Morning Vietnam.

Here's another quote:
Why Madam,we are the Old Guard. We are the Nation's Toy Soldiers. We march with rifles that cannot shoot. We fix bayonets that cannot stick. We are the Kabuki theater of the profession of arms.Jesters in the court of Mars, God of War, do-da, do-da.

PLEASE, Please, please... Name That Movie!
Let's float this idea:

“In a world whose absurdity appears to be so impenetrable, we simply must reach a greater degree of understanding among us, a greater sincerity.”

This is a movie that completely escaped my notice:

Well, you're on the right garden path - but haven't yet pulled the sword from the stone.

Re: Name That Movie!
Given that the quote speaks of rifles, it can't be a movie about King Arthur...?

I'll take it, but leave my turn to the first to take it.
the film is Gardens of Stone, a 1987 film with a pretty good cast--james Earl Jones, James Caan, Angelica Houston, Mary Stuart Masterson to name a few. Really worth a watch if you can locate it.

That's right - an under the radar gem from Francis Ford Coppola - resonates even more today as we are mired in yet another seemingly endless war. Far fewer casualties, but that's partly because of better field medicine - tens of thousands of lives marred by traumatic brain injury, amputations and over 8000/year lost to suicide.

I've loved this film since it was first released and highly recommend it - it's available to rent or purchase on Amazon digital streaming, and to purchase as a DVD as well.

Well, I don't really want to take a turn that's a freebie, but if nobody else does today, I'll post a new movie quote tomorrow morning.

New quote:

In order to save on time, keystrokes, and bandwidth, I'm posting this for you now:
"No Ray, that's incorrect"
You can just assume that as my standing reply to any of your "guesses" without my posting individual responses to them, until and unless you actually get it right....
A: Remember, men, no matter what they do, don't talk.
B: What if they torture us?
A: Just don't talk!
B: Can we scream a little?
