The fight against global warming
Re: The fight against global warming
You're probably right, but this is different from needing "permission". And I am unsure that protection would be terminated if she refused to do something they requested; I imagine there are very specific rules governing under what conditions the SS can decline to protect anyone.
Re: The fight against global warming
Under the SS statute - 18 US 3056 - potection for the current POTUS/VPOTUS and the P/VP-elects is mandatory. All else can be declined by the individuals. The statute says the Secret Service "is authorized" to provide the protection.

Re: The fight against global warming
Somehow this math does not add up. 781 gallons of jet fuel does not even weigh 1 ton, so how can it create 8.24 tons of carbon emissions?Monday's two-hour, 15-minute flight from Des Moines to Manchester, New Hampshire burned an estimated 781 gallons of jet fuel, producing 8.24 tons of carbon emissions.
Also, the term "carbon neutral" is incorrect. The only way to be truly carbon neutral is to sequester any and all emissions one generates.
Buying carbon credits does not offset the carbon emitted by the jet, all it does is make one feel good and being able to say, "I can burn stuff because I bought credits that allow me to burn it". The emissions still happen anyway. It's a scam.
It's like the shield I have on the back of my subaru, which is PZEV (stand for partial zero emissions vehicle). I have not a clue what that stands for . The SUV is not a hybrid nor electric**. As it was explained ot me that it was built in a plant that has almost no waste. All "extra" metal, plastic, etc is saved and sent for recycling. That is not "zero emissions". That is "partial zero waste".
** and electric vehicles are not zero emission either unless one can trace everything in the car back to powering the plant that builds it (and all the different parts) is powered only by renewables (or nuclear) and that the electricity to charge it is obtained from a renewable power source.
Just a bunch of feel good bull$%it.
