All things related to the general running of the forum - got a suggestion? Here's where it should go.

Absolutely Dais, a job well done lass! :ok

Your next challenge is to mediate between Republican and Democrat representatives here and sort out this presidential election malarkey once and for all.

No, I was thinking we'd send her off to the Mid-East to deal with that Israeli- Palestinian thingy...

Many thanks Daisy.

I would also like to provide my apologies to the Board for getting tetchy and crappy about this matter for the past couple of weeks.

Dishonesty and deceit do my head in.
Bah!

No apologies necessary Hen. I think the way I would have reacted had the same accusations/lies been flung my way would've made you look like Mother Theresa!

I look forward to your next chapter.

I'M NOT A FAN OF CENSORSHIP

Post by RayThom »

However, as a 'newbie' on this board I'm not in touch with its mood and feel at the moment. Obviously, LoCAtek must have said something very egregious and horribly offensive. I suppose I could go back and try to make sense of it all but maybe that's way more than I need to know.

In "25 words or less" can anyone objectively sum up for me why this censoring motion was deemed necessary? Yes, you may claim majority rules but is the majority always right -- and/or possibly even righteous? And do censored members actually return after being ostracized, albeit for 'only' 30 days? That would seem very odd to me. To paraphrase Groucho Marx, "I don't want to belong to any forum that would censor me for my opinion."

Can someone elucidate? Thank you, and much appreciated.

I cannot do it objectively as I was too involved.

However my view is this; Lo, for a period of a year plus continually abused the board, by overtly attempting to destroy discussion, and insulting me* and my wife (Hen) in the most vile manner. This made the board a very unpleasant place at times.

She was given every opportunity to desist, and more than enough chance to apologise. She chose instead to push things to the point where her actions were not defendable in any manner.

The board spoke.

*The fact that it was me and my wife she was obsessed with, going to the extreme of digging out forums I have not posted at in 8 years to try to spread shit, is neither here nor there.

can we get rid of the mediation sub-forum?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Out of interest Daisy, (and when you can log in to the forum), is this a four week month or a calendar month suspension on Lo?

What date will you be restoring her posting permissions?
Bah!

Boy, you go into rehab for 6 weeks, have little to no contact with the outside world (only talked to my wife about 10 times and only saw her once during that time) and you miss all the drama. Don't know what Loc did/said but on principle I am against bannings/suspensions. SueU smmed it up best. And I don't vote in polls but it's a little late now anyway. :shrug

Hen I set the suspension for one month on the admin tools, I assume that this will automatically reset on the 20th.

Oldr, I appreciate your comments, please trust us that there was no other way to work around this problem, and the decision was not taken lightly.

I am sure it wasn't. Having been an admin on another board, I know the angst and self guessing (and hte second and third guessing) that goes along with these types of decisions.

All those in charge/overseeing the workings of this board are doing a great job. My sincere thanks to all. :ok

The more I think about it (3%) the more I think that it takes two to tango. Anyone who is being a parasite can either be ignored or responded to. This is not real life. The 'stalker' is not really standing behind anyone with a real weapon. Thousands and thousands of miles separate whoever the real people are (if you are real, and I doubt it).

So one person being an asshole is something that should be ignored, not responded to, pushed aside, not engaged with, whatever......

Thus when rubato (or scooter) thinks I'm being an asshole (99.9% of the time anyway) he/it doesn't respond - he/it lets it go. That is the correct response.

If one person is to be 'banned' for posting crap, then I think anyone who has joined in, and effectively ENCOURAGED a continutation, i.e. responding to that crap, should go with them. Two for the price of one.

So in the end - I say either it's no ban at all - or the two people (or more) who heap crap backwards and forwards should both be put in time-out

Since I cannot edit my vote - switch it from 'yes' to 'no'

as if it matters

I don't take well to lies about me and my family.

I do not have that much strength within me to ignore vile and malicious venom that has been posted on this Board.

You are a far better person than me if you can.

Is it wrong to have wanted a retraction?
Bah!

It's easy to say until you are the relentless object of it. And you are being accused, among other things, of criminal acts.

And there is a difference between heaping crap back and forth and merely defending oneself about crap that is being thrown one's way.

Perhaps those who are willing to tolerate it by saying it can be ignored should be the ones to be banned, because they give encouragement to those hurling the crap that their actions will be tolerated, no matter how vicious they might get.
