Datsun, I guess I am a crazy pro-gunner

Post by Burning Petard »

"Hell, there are crazy pro-gunners that believe the 2nd Amendment technically allows them the right to tactical nuclear weapons."

I firmly believe it, based on the inclusion of 'the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.' in that Amendment. Ii is the only right listed in the constitution, as amended, that carries such a broad description.

It is also the reason that I believe the second amendment belongs in the dustbin of history. It has been and is violated in many ways. The people generally, the congress, the president, the federal courts, the state and local governments ALL have acted in ways that infringe that 2nd amendment right.

I guess that makes me a crazy pro-gunner to say that BECAUSE the second amendment technically recognizes my right to tactical nuclear weapons, the second amendment should be changed to align the constitution to the requirements of reason, practicality, and reality, rather than endless pretense about how to fudge and blur the law.

Ray, bless your agnostic/athiestic/pagan soul. You remind us all of the biblical hero Job, who was willing to battle with the Devine, and challenge His ethics and morality, who demanded accountability.

"I feel so inadequate. Oh, well, it's in God's hands now. He'll save America."

You remind me of one of my theological mentors who advised "Always begin with prayer, but never stop there."

40 years? Kennedy was assasinated in 1963. I knew Oswald was a Communist in GRADE SCHOOL. In the 1980s.

It was in the Warren Report. Which was made public on September 27, 1964. Less than a year after the assassination.

Plus the media had picked it up long, long before that.
No he was a member of the Klan and worked of the CIA; don’t you remember.

And the media portrayed him as disaffected with communism. He didn’t leave the Soviet Union because he was disappointed in communism he left because he wanted do something more important than work in an electronics factory like make trouble in the US.

Now back to the other site where we are discussing why Eurasia rose to dominate the world so early in history.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

  • Dear Law Abiding Gun Owners:

I know you're out there. I hear about you every time there's another massacre some place in America. I believe you exist. I know people who hunt. I don't understand them, but I know them. I know target shooters, too; I've done that myself and I get it. Truly, I do.

So here's the thing. The ball is in your court.

You're the only ones who can do it. Nobody listens to liberals on the issue. Congress is bought and paid for, where it isn't abjectly terrified. You're the only significant block of voters with the power to force the issue of actual American carnage.

As should be clear by now, the NRA's agenda is not your own. The NRA is the lobbying arm of the armaments industry. It has that industry's interests at heart and not your own. Either wrench the NRA back to its original purpose or pull out of it, all of you.

I promise you this. Nobody is going to come grab your guns, no matter what Wayne LaPierre says. It's impractical, for one thing. You will still be allowed to shoot at targets and ventilate large fauna. But you have an obligation to the country now because you're really the only people who can swing us back to sanity.

    Use your power. Save lives.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

You must have a different version of Scripture.

Job was more than willing to let God be God and as your remember (or not) that God gave Satan free reign over Job except not to take his life.

Job was stripped of all worldly belongings his friends abandoned him an his wife said "Curse God and die".

He still was loyal to his God in spite of all his calamities.

Because oh his unshakable faith, God rewarded him with everything that was lost and more.

A wonderful account of God's provision.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Except that god bargained away the lives of all of his children and numberless servants killed by the various calamities. And did it just to score points with satan.

and that is, of course, the big question. With the availability of illegal guns, would we see a significant reduction in the problems? I'm not sure we would, and I also would think regulation of the type you are discussing would require a repeal of the second amendment--which would have a significant psychological effect on many who do not even own guns. Just as outlawing automatic weapons did not prevent the carnage in Vegas, outlawing significant classes or gun ownership (or guns altogether) would likely not stop the next nut or person with an axe to grind.
The fact is that the overwhelming majority of gun homicides and other gun crimes are not the public mass murders like Las Vegas, but much more mundane crimes, usually committed with handguns, not semi-automatic rifles. And yes, effective regulation to get guns off the streets and restrict their sales would almost undoubtedly require repealing the Second Amendment -- an 18th Century anachronism in today's society in any event. You may not be able to prevent all nutjobs from using guns to kill people, but you can certainly lessen the toll. And let's face it, no one actually needs an AR-15 for deer hunting or even "self defense." I would have no problem banning semi-automatic weapons of any variety.
Big RR wrote:I think the best way to approach it is to try and work out a compromise, but a lot of people are not interested in that.
What do you see as a compromise? (I frankly think the suggestions I've made here are very significant compromises from my preferred position of NO FUCKING GUNS!)
GAH!

Well Dale, for the story of Job, I defer to Jewish authorities, for it is their scripture. I do not read Hebrew or Greek. I use in particular the English translations "The Wisdom Books" translated by Robert Alter and "TANAKH, The Holy Scriptures" published by the Jewish Publication Society, Philadelphia and Jerusalem, 1985.

In each of these publications, Job in chapters 7,9, 10, 13, [13:3 and 18 are very specific.] 27 and others, Job does exactly what I said he did--argue that God is wrong, morally and ethically. Job never disputes God's sovereignty, only His justice.

Gotta call bulshit on that one Sue. declaring that you gave something up by moving from an absolutist position is competitive meaningless. I mean I already conceded that everyone shouldn't be given the launch codes to thier own personal neuclear weapon at birth just. How much do you expect me to give?!

Liberal fired not for unguarded remarks, but for giving away the liberal agenda at CBS.

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/cbs-fir ... 202578075/

CBS has fired a legal executive who took to social media Monday morning with harsh words for the victims of one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.
Hayley Geftman-Gold, a VP and senior counsel in strategic transactions at CBS wrote on Facebook Monday just hours after a shooting in Las Vegas at a country-music festival left at least 58 dead and hundreds more injured, “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing.I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans are often republican gun toters.
Geftman-Gold’s comments quickly spread on social media and through online news outlets. Her employment at CBS was terminated shortly thereafter.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

So guy says something completely unfeeling and inappropriate, gets fired for it, and that betrays a "liberal agenda" at CBS because...

To Dale and Rubato, the Jewish Scripture does not claim G-d did any of the things described in Job. It is not history. It does not claim to describe actual events any more than the tv show Sesame Street documents the actual events on an actual street in any brick and mortar neighborhood.

But both reveal much about the human condition.
