Bush-Republican tax cuts final scorecard

Post by rubato »

Since the tax cuts are about to expire it is worthwhile to look at the data on this experiment in government and see what the truth is about cause and effect in this arena of public policy. Historically, no Republican has ever been guided by data or facts in this area but there is faint hope that some few might take notice and vote accordingly.

The data is in on the Bush tax cuts:

http://www.tax.com/taxcom/taxblog.nsf/P ... enDocument

"...Total income was $2.74 trillion less during the eight Bush years than if incomes had stayed at 2000 levels. ..."

"... In the two years since 2008, the cuts' total cost grew to $2.3 trillion, the Tax Policy Center estimated. ... "

This is only the added debt which is directly due to the tax cuts. It does not include the added debt due to huge increases in spending and the largest expansion of the federal government since Reagan.

No big surprises here.

Still waiting for any republican to show why policies which made us weaker and poorer should be repeated.

Well I've proven again that the desire to secure power has zero connection with any fitness to wield it. We should consider that cancer cells are just as moral as republicans, provide as little benefit to their hosts.
