High School Student Says He Was Arrested For Writing About Shooting A Dinosaur

Summerville,SC-A South Carolina teen's writing assignment ended in an arrest after he says he made a reference to using a gun to kill a dinosaur.

On the second day of school, freshman Alex Stone was suspended and arrested.

"I don't want to go back to that school. I want to transfer or be homeschooled,” said Stone.

Stone says they were told to write a few sentences about themselves and a "status," as if it were a Facebook page.

He says in his "status" he wrote a fictional story that involved the words "gun" and "take care of business."

"I killed my neighbor's pet dinosaur, and then, in the next status I said, I bought the gun to take care of the business," said Stone.

"First of all, we don't have dinosaurs anymore,” said the boy's mother, Karen Gray.

Stone says his statements were taken completely out of context.

Investigators say the teacher contacted school officials who notified police.

His bookbag and locker were searched. A gun was not found in the search.

"What happened to freedom of speech?" said Gray.

Stone's mother says she is furious that the school did not contact her before her son was arrested. She says her son followed directions and completed an assignment.

"If the school would have called me and told me about the paper and asked me to come down and discussed everything and, at least, get his point-of-view on the way he meant it. I never heard from the school, never. They never called me," said Gray.

Stone and his mother say they understand the sensitive nature of what he wrote, but they say it was a rash reaction to an innocent situation.

“I regret it because they put it on my record, but I don't see the harm in it," Stone said."I think there might have been a better way of putting it, but I think me writing like that, it shouldn't matter unless I put it out towards a person."

Police say during their interaction with the student, he was disruptive. The 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with disturbing schools.

His mother says he's scheduled to return to school Monday.

slightly different, but....

there was a teacher detained recently in Cambridge Maryland. he had written 2 fictional books about school massacres. the internet is full of people screaming about his freedom of speech.

what they don t know is that they also found a model of his previous school with exits and evacuation procedures marked in such a way as to indicate a plan to attack that school. the police should really release all info, like they should have in ferguson Missouri. it would really ease the protest if we knew the whole of the facts. prejudicing the jury pool is a red herring. you don t have to be ignorant to judge a case impartially.

the reason I brought this up is that my daughter goes to the previous school. they have been on lockdown with police everywhere. and they have spent the first week drilling about what to do in case of attack. thank god they are teaching the kids and teachers to stop an assailant instead of letting him kill them. they told the kids that if a guy bursts in the room, they should start throwing books at him to distract him and allow the teacher to tackle him. they are being told to fight for their lives. yay!

these guys all seem to be cowards who kill themselves when the police appear, they will fold if resisted.

anyway, I got some of the details that weren t released from someone who works, in a school, with the suspects mother.

maybe he is innocent, but there was enough to worry. it wasn t as simple as him just writing a book under a pen name.

In case you missed it, I never claimed the arrest to be justified, only that to purport that he was arrested for writing about shooting a dinosaur was a gross misrepresentation of what happened.
