Kent State recently had a counter-terrorism/Ranger/Special Forces whatever expert conduct a seminar on what to do if there's an armed "event" in school buildings.

Run and fight were the two prime options - "hide" was discussed. Yes, hide if you can truly barricade an entire room and prevent entry (and run/fight are not options). But hiding by huddling under a desk in a room that the shooter has entered is not OK. Despite some anomalies, folks huddled on the ground are compliant and welcome targets.
