Blue Lives Matter...

Post by Lord Jim »

There have been comments about this in a couple of of other threads, but I thought this horrific cowardly racist massacre deserved its own thread:

Here's the latest:
5 Dallas Officers Killed, 7 Injured in Ambush Shootings

Image

Five Dallas law enforcement officers were killed and seven more injured late Thursday in an ambush by at least two gunmen, one of whom told police he was angry about recent fatal shootings of black men by police elsewhere in the U.S. and that he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers.

Two civilians were also injured in the shootings, which happened as people demonstrated in downtown Dallas following the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, black men killed by police in Louisiana and in Minnesota this week.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the gunman "expressed anger for Black Lives Matter"[it was later clarified that the chief meant "on behalf of" not "towards"] and told a hostage negotiator he "wanted to kill [police] officers." Police spent hours negotiating with him before he was killed by an explosive strapped to a police robot.

"We're hurting," said Brown. "Our profession is hurting. Dallas officers are hurting. We are heartbroken. There are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city."

President Barack Obama called the Dallas shootings a "vicious, calculated, despicable attack" while speaking to reporters Friday morning in Warsaw, Poland. He described the killings as a "tremendous tragedy" and "senseless murders."

"We will learn more about their twisted motivations," Obama said of the suspects. "Let's be clear: There is no possible justification."

The chaos erupted just before 9 p.m. Thursday when at least two snipers in elevated positions opened fire on police officers amid the demonstrations, officials said. The family of 37-year-old Shetamia Taylor, a woman who was shot and injured, told ABC affiliate WFAA that while at the demonstrations with her four sons, she jumped on top of her son as shots were fired.

Police said the gunmen fired from two different perches or garages.

Demonstrations across the country followed the deaths of Sterling and Castile as both shootings -- parts of which were captured on witness video -- sparked outrage. The Department of Justice is investigating Sterling's death and monitoring the investigating into Castile's.

Three additional suspects (two men and one woman) are in custody, (reportedly they are not talking) and the police chief has said they believe there may be others who were involved still at large.

Gee, I wonder if we're now going to hear about how all the anti-police (and specifically anti- white police) rhetoric helped to "create the environment" for this to happen, just the way we always hear about how outspoken conservatives somehow share the blame whenever an attack motivated by white racism takes place...

Will fingers be pointed at Al Sharpton the way they get pointed at Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter?

Aw hell, who do I think I'm kidding...

I don't really wonder that...

Of course, there couldn't possibly be any room for police to be doing some self-reflection on whether they are reaping a fraction of what they sowed.

So when it's white cops, it's the victims who get the blame...

Just what exactly did the murdered police officers in Dallas do to deserve what happened to them? What did those individuals have to do with the the actions of cops anywhere else?

Are you saying "they had it coming"? :shrug Are you saying this was somehow justified? (Because frankly that's what it sounds like you're saying)

Scooter, your comment is not at all well taken...

It was completely unjustified and undeserved. But it should have been completely foreseeable. Black men and boys are being gunned down in the streets left, right and centre, and few if any of their killers ever paid a price for it, precisely because they wear a uniform, and you're surprised when a demented nutcase perpetrates his warped version of justice?

Not surprised.........only incredulous, I don't believe that MLK would have condoned such behavior (and things WERE FAR WORSE FOR BLACKS IN THE 1960'S THAN THEY ARE TODAY).

My taste in women is different than yours.
And for the record, I do have a sister and I'll thank you to never refer to her in this manner again.

If you're trying to move ahead of wesw on the "biggest asshole on this board" list, you're making excellent progress.

wes is a rank amateur. If you have decided that you are going to pollute the entire board with this nonsense then I am more than willing to play. Or you could play it smart and not start what you are not equipped to finish.

If I were a cop right now, the last thing I'd be thinking about is how I may be responsible for some nutcase killing other cops. I'd be anxious and likely to see black people as more of a threat than I did before this. I'd be worried that a trend may have started and more black people will be trying to kill cops.

That's a lot different than your first statement. I doubt anybody is surprised about this. It's not the first time something like this has happened. It's just the first time anyone has been so successful at it.

No it's not...

It happened to two cops just sitting in their squad car in NYC just a few months ago...

Joe makes some excellent points...

This sort of horrible act is likely to do nothing but make cops more nervous and concerned that other racist copycats will be out there gunning for them...

It's also going to mean that they will probably go back to wearing the kevlar, helmets, and tactical gear at protest marches (who can blame them?) that the protest leaders whined was "confrontational"...

The cops at the protest in Dallas weren't dressed this way. Some were in shorts, and some even marched with the protestors. (The protest organizer said they had good relations with the Dallas PD, and that they worked cooperatively together.)

This event is going to be a terrible blow to day-in-day-out police-minority community relations across the country. Everybody involved is going to be more "on edge" which will make miscalculations and tragedies all the more likely.

What We Know About Reported Dallas Shooter Micah Xavier Johnson

ImageImage

Multiple news outlets have reported that a shooter in the attack that killed five police officers during a protest in downtown Dallas on Thursday has been identified by law enforcement sources as Micah Xavier Johnson. That shooter was killed in a standoff with police when negotiations failed and a robot-placed explosive device was detonated near him. At least seven other officers and two civilians were injured in the attack.

Here is what we know about Johnson so far:

According a law enforcement source to the Los Angeles Times, he is a 25-year-old Dallas resident.

The Times also reported that Johnson had no known criminal record or ties to terror.

Police Chief David Brown said that during the standoff in which he was killed, the “[t]he suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.” He also said the police would find planted explosive devices, and he “expressed anger about Black Lives Matter” during the standoff, though it was unclear what was meant by that last statement.

The Times reported that Johnson has relatives in Mesquite, Texas, and that “[a]uthorities believe Johnson belonged to an informal gun club and took copious amounts of target practice, according to a law enforcement official.”

CNN and the Daily Beast reported that Johnson was a military veteran. The Daily Beast also reported that he attended a gym that offered martial arts and weapons classes:

A U.S. defense official told The Daily Beast that Johnson served as a corporal in the Army Reserve as part of the 284th Engineering Company out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He previously deployed to Afghanistan.

Johnson formerly attended the “self-defense and personal protection” gym Academy of Combat Warrior Arts in Richardson and Fort Worth, Texas, gym owner and CEO Justin Everman told The Daily Beast. The gym’s Twitter account says it provides “reality based training for today’s Urban environment.”

Along with more traditional martial arts classes, the gym also teaches seminars in “Urban Everyday Carry and Improvised Weapons” and “Weapons Defense.” Everman said many of the gym’s members are police officers and stressed that “we have completely no affiliation with him whatsoever.”
