Marina Sirtis tells "the costume story"

Post by Scooter »

Quite a humourous telling of how Hollywood's obsession with thinness and the belief that physical beauty cannot coexist with intelligence influenced the costumes and storylines of Sirtis's character.

For those who were not fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Sirtis's character for most of the series run was clad in a variety of gossamer frocks while all of her co-stars wore simple unitards. Her character was orignailly conceived as having three breasts, but they dispensed with that in favour of assymmetrical bust lines which made her look like she had breastfed six babies, always on the same side.

Marina Sirtis tells "the costume story"

Sirtis' has an entertaining story to weave but I think much of her indignation and eventual wisdom is due to hindsight. She had it and flaunted it. Just google her name and almost every image of her is provocative. Even her more mature one's exude an alluring quality.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

I don't hear her protesting against wearing revealing/provocative costumes per se, but rather that the choices made for were sometimes unflattering and physically uncomfortable, and would alter the intelligence exuded by her character.

That was a fun segment, but it still won't get me to a Comic-Con.
