Cracking night last night, watching the Fishermen's Friends at Penlee Park, in Penzance.
Great singing, with very funny banter between songs.
(For Guin)
They finished their set with my favourite sea shanty: "Bound for South. Australia."
Highly recommended.
(We must see the movie now, seeing as they had so many "good" things to say about it!!)

This longer YouTube version is better than the Twitter:
It also led to me to this lovely pandemic/zoom sea shanty experience:
Watched the Fisherman’s Friends movie a few months ago and really loved it. I had joined a sea shanty group here just before the pandemic kicked off - but we won’t be singing again until maybe late ‘21 or early ‘22.
It’s been a joy to find all the sea shanty lovers on YouTube.

Gob posts this ↑↑ ... which is the first time I've heard it ... and then I find THIS on another blog this morning.
And as long as we're talking sea shanties and songs ... back in the late eighties I ran across a group called "The Deep Water Family", far from the sea in Iowa. They were apparently based out of somewhere on the east coast and were a family group of three or four who performed old sailing songs and shanties. Does anybody on this board that hails from that part of the country ever come across them, and are they still together and performing? -"BB"-
Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

The Wellington Sea Shanty Society recorded Soon May The Wellerman Come on their 2013 album, Now That’s What I Call Sea Shanties Vol 1,
Honestly I find this whole TikTok/digital sea shanty revival to be really hilarious and also quite sweet. I guess the interwebz actually is good for something.
Was talking to a musician friend the other night, and he says, "So it looks like we've entered the sea-shanty phase of the pandemic now." I almost hurt myself laughing.

This is at the Minack, the amazing Cornish Theater which is built into a cliff side above the sea.

That is an amazing place. I have never been to a performance there but I've walked around it. Rowena Cade bought the headland for £100 a hundred years ago and spent the rest of her life, with a few friends and locals, building the theatre. Basically it's carved from the rock with hand tools. by a bunch of amateurs who taught themselves as they went along. More here.
Me 'n the Mrs did the same, exkA. Well worth the visit. A bit awesome ackcherly.

Last time we went to the Minack was to see "Chicago". I was there under penance, as I HATE musicals, but owed Hen a treat, (birthday.)
I was sat there, bored out of my tiny, when, on the horizon a full moon, looking massive from that angle, rose out of the sea.
I really felt for the performers as they had no chance of competing with that show!

Could there be a finer way to end lock-down? A night of good company, watching the Fishermen's Friends singing shanties at the Minak.

It does . Once when I was there the whole audience turned away from the stage, to watch a harvest moon rise from the behind the distant shoreline. Another time a pod of dolphin had a similar effect.

The Maryhill Amphitheater is still closed to concerts, but its stunning view of the Columbia Gorge and its vineyards remains. Plus, the winery has done a brisk business through the pandemic.
