. . . if this arsehole is likely to become a thing. Surely, Trump-once is enough of a warning to sane US citizens and this chap must sink beneath the weight of revisionist revulsion that must occur this November and backwash all the way past 2024. If he does continue to rise (or even exist), I may have to change my party affiliation. This cannot happen twice!
Think Trump is bad? President Tom Cotton would be even more terrifying
Cotton’s moment in the spotlight has passed – but he will almost certainly be back there soon. Despite having the charisma of a soggy bag of lettuce, the senator is hugely powerful: Cotton has influenced many of Trump’s decisions, including cuts to legal immigration and the banning of commercial flights between the US and China during the early days of Covid-19. He is also the guy who told Trump it would be a great idea to buy Greenland. When not urging the acquisition of the world’s largest island, Cotton can often be found fanning the flames of racism and xenophobia. He has repeatedly used the phrases “China virus” and “Wuhan virus” and has floated the conspiracy theory that Covid-19 was created by the Chinese government in a weapons lab.
Cotton may look like an American Alan Partridge, but he is no buffoon; he is a dangerous man with dangerous ambitions. Indeed, a number of experts believe he is angling to be the heir to Trumpism. His popularity among conservative activists seems to have been boosted by the Times controversy and it looks increasingly likely he will be a Republican presidential contender in 2024.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Yes. I read his op-ed in the NYT and was horrified. I had vaguely heard of him but I had assumed that he was just one of the crown of hangers on, misanthropes and smug bastards who seem to find their way to Trump.
I strongly supported NYT publishing his piece, and was astonished to hear that their op-ed editor has resigned. We need to understand how these people think and what their attraction is. If I were commanding an army in battle I would want to read their communications which is why I sometimes watch Fox News or read the Daily Telegraph. So far I have not had the stomach to tackle the Epoch Times but I'll probably have to one day. Judging from the comments in NYT, I am not alone in that support.
I was also sorry to see that the paper has resolved the staff uprising over the op-Ed by forcing out two of the top editors, one who resigned and another who was demoted. I am also a firm believer in sunlight as the best disinfectant.
The Times also faced a huge amount of criticism over a piece it published in fall 2017, after Charlottesville, which featured a white supremacist Nazi-sympathizing family from the Midwest; many readers criticized the paper and the writer for ‘normalizing’ those abhorrent beliefs via the feature piece. How stupid! The writer didn’t present them with affection or praise, he merely shone a light on their existence. Far too many people (very clearly considering the giant lightbulb moment the nation is now having) are clueless about the white supremacy movement in this country, which is too large and thriving.
Folks who are complacent need journalism like this to wake them up to reality. Folks who don’t realize how dangerous the thinking of some of their elected officials is really need to see it on display in the paper of record.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
