A legal question
A legal question
A legal question, how can one person be responsible for another person committing suicide?

Family of man found hanging on tree at MS home gets $11M in civil suit (clarionledger.com)
The family of a 21-year-old Black man found hanging from a tree in his girlfriend's Scott County yard three years ago will be awarded $11 million in a civil suit related to his death.
Willie Jones Jr., 21, was found hanging from a tree in front of girlfriend Alexis Rankin's home the night of Feb. 8, 2018.
Jones' family sued Rankin, her stepfather and several others for not acting to prevent Jones' death, according to court documents filed in December 2020 in the Hinds County Circuit Court. The lawsuit alleged stepfather Harold O'Bryant, with the help of others, either hanged Jones or failed to stop Jones from taking his own life.

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Re: A legal question
The story lib linked goes on to say:
Maybe had you read to the end of the story you might have answered your own question, lib.Evidence found during an independent investigation — done by the Bellinder Law Firm, Jefferson and the People’s Advocacy Institute, a Mississippi based organization dedicated to transformative justice in the South — contradicted an initial ruling of suicide.
Re: A legal question
But, I only asked one question, and I said nothing about any murder. I repeat, can one person, a private citizen, be responsible for another person committing suicide?ex-khobar Andy wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 3:55 amThe story lib linked goes on to say:

Re: A legal question
Why don't you work it out, lib and then come back and tell us?

That summa cum laude associate's degree from the University of East Butt Crack is sure showing its worth.

Re: A legal question
In response to your question, the answer is, of course. I can think of any number of fact patterns that could make the person for the suicide of another, from the mental health professional who ignores the warning signs/suicide threats of his patient to the CIA officer who secretly doses the person with a mind altering drug that leads to the suicide. Like everything else, it depends on the facts of the situation

Which reminds me... Remember the Michelle Carter case?
She didn't do much time but she was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Re: A legal question
Since you all are having trouble with the question, I will restate it: Would a girlfriend be legally responsible if she ended the relationship and the boyfriend committed suicide?

Re: A legal question
That's not a restated question. It's a different question than your first two.
Do you really need to ask it?

Re: A legal question
Tell you what. You let your girlfriend break up with you, and then you go ahead and commit suicide.
We'll let the courts sort it out then.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Re: A legal question
And while we are at it, can a vest have sleeves and still be a vest? But even more to your question, what do you mean as "legally responsible"? Are we talking about criminal or civil liability or is there something else? In which jurisdiction? We could go on and on, which it appears is what you want.
Re: A legal question
My concern is about civil and criminal penalties, not personal or social. It is a bad president to set that holds people responsible for not acting unless they chose a profession that requires specific actions such as a teacher or social working.Big RR wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 2:05 pmAnd while we are at it, can a vest have sleeves and still be a vest? If the woman can be held legally liable for the man's action, she is a slave; she can't break off the relationship without his permission. If he commits suicide or injured himself, is it right to punish her? I think people should be responsible for their actions.
If you have anything to add that is related in any way, go ahead. Unlike liberals, leftist or communist, I don't wish to inhibit free thought. Sorry about the redundancy.

Re: A legal question
Your concern is about some artificial notion you've cooked up in your head. What woman are you referring to and what were the circumstances? Why do you specific a woman as the cause and a male as the victim? Why not ask if a man can be held liable for an ex-girlpal topping herself?
On second thoughts, don't. And that's precedent - we had a bad president from Jan 2017 to Jan 2021

Well the court seemed to think so. She was sentenced to 2 1/2 years of which she served about 1 year.liberty wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 2:38 amIs there any evidence that they manipulated him into suicide?Joe Guy wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:55 pmWhich reminds me... Remember the Michelle Carter case?

I wish it were you instead of me, but I can console myself with the fact that you will die gasping for breath while I can breathe just fine.
