Bad news, Greens in trouble

Post by liberty »

I was hoping the Greens would win; they might kill the Russian pipeline. The German economy going to hell would be a side benefit.

Momentum with Merkel party after victory in key state poll (msn.com)

Angela Merkel's conservatives were heaving a sigh of relief on Monday after a convincing win in the last regional vote before a general election that also exposed the weaknesses of the Green party, their main rival at the national level.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) under new party chief Armin Laschet won around 37 percent of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday, partial results showed, well ahead of the second place far-right AfD party on around 21 percent.
The Greens, who had until recently been polling neck-and-neck with the CDU and its smaller Bavarian CSU sister party at the national level, scored a disappointing result of around six percent.

The outcome in the former East German state is a huge boost for conservative would-be chancellor Laschet ahead of Germany's general election on September 26 -- the first in 16 years not to feature Merkel.

"Laschet is still a long way from the chancellor's office," the Sueddeutsche Zeitung daily said. But the poll result has brought him "much closer to it".

Berenberg Bank's chief economist Holger Schmieding noted that national polls in the last ten days have shown the CDU and CSU slightly ahead of the Greens again after falling behind earlier in the year.
"After the CDU did well in Saxony-Anhalt, this nascent reversal of fortunes in favour of the CDU will likely continue," he said.

Interesting, the EU depends heavily on the German economy. Merkel has been a very good chancellor, and has kept the country on an even keel for many years.

Will be watching carefully how this progresses.

Has a Green party ever been the dominant party in any country?

I don’t think so because most people are capable of seeing crazy fanatics when they see them. Most people like eating and being warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But we could go back to struggling for food and bathing only in the summer. The scientific, industrial complex in the west has made for a better life. I think that everyone here except for Shit Head would agree that the European scientific revolution and the advent of modern science, in time, lead to a better life for the western Europeans and eventually the world. If something is not feasible, no amount of wishful thinking can make it so.

Can anyone point to a Green Party platform anywhere that calls for undoing all scientific progress? More drivel from the village idiot's incest-stunted brain.
