A viral TikTok video has shed light on the staggering cost of a prolonged hospital stay in the US during the pandemic.
TikTok account @letstalkaboutbusiness shared the video, claiming to show the cost of a four month stay in an American hospital with COVID-19.
The clip includes an itemized list of charges, from anesthesia to physical therapy to a stay in the ICU, which in total come out to a whopping $2,850,776.10.
Most American insurance plans, however, would not cover the entire bill, and many could easily still leave patients in thousands of dollars of debt.
The biggest charge is $550,458 for respiratory therapy, followed by $404,515 to cover intermediate ICU care.
Not far behind is the $324,349 ICU charge, the $350,203.50 laboratory charge, and the $397,632 charge for non-sterile medical and surgical supplies.
There were two separate pharmacy charges, for $155,218.60 and $43,212, plus another $193,521 charge for 'drugs.'
Still in six figure sums is the $110,375 charge for a pulmonary function test and an over-$108,000 charge for physical therapy — as well as $2,000 more for a physical therapy evaluation.
The list also includes $5,352 for room and board in a shared two-bed room, a $4,950 emergency room charge, $12,969 for operating room services, and $5,128 for more medical supplies.

"This is not a bill."
So that's OK then.
