I hate washing windows

Post by Scooter »

There is a 12 foot span of floor to ceiling windows in my living room looking out onto the balcony. Because of the sliding doors/windows, it really amounts to cleaning four surfaces across the entire width, for a total of about 380 square feet of area to be cleaned.

So after hours of jumping back and forth between inside and out, figuring out on which side this smudge or that has been left, I find myself discovering a new smear left for me to clean every time I walk by and the light hits the glass from a different angle. I was less conscious of the dirt when there was a uniform layer of grime deposited on them; now I will be attacking them with a spray bottle and paper towel every time I see the slightest smudge.

It just takes all of the satisfaction out of having done the job. :(

Once a year, whether they need it or not.

Although I think I might have forgotten to do it this time last year.

We hire a company to do it. They clean every window in the house in 45min perfectly streak-free. Including the 4 5ft x 10ft windows facing the bay.

My suggestion is to hire someone and watch him do it. Then do it the way he does. There are a lot of little tricks there.

Getting squeegee (sp?) seems essential.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Come to think of it, there's probably a window washing service in the neigbourhood that will send over a guy who will work in a Speedo...

I don't think you'll be paying much attention to his technique then

I might have to get him to redo it a few times so I've got all his moves down pat.
