When Lady Gaga wore extraordinary Alexander McQueen ''armadillo'' shoes or the vertically extreme studded boots that looked like a feat to walk in, she won some fashion cred for mastering the art of forward motion in ludicrous footwear.

However, those 30cm are trumped by these creations, the ''Scary Beautiful'' shoes described as a collaboration between artist Leanie van der Vyver and Dutch shoe designer Rene van den Berg. The shoes seem to throw the wearer's weight onto her shins. Gaga, naturally, has been sent a pair.



''They look … ouch,'' fashion fan Ashleigh Aleckson said on Facebook.

Val Burge concurred. ''Why would you want to [wear them]? They're ridiculous,'' she wrote.

The vice-president of the Podiatry Association of NSW Brenden Brown said the shoes would cause significant pain in the knees, thighs and hips, so much so that ''I'd be surprised if you could walk the next day''.

He's aware most women wear much more modest footwear, but warned them all the same that less was more.

''Women will wear heels as long as men drink beer,'' he said.

''I understand this, I ask you to wear them in moderation.

''If you wear high or silly heels for long periods you'll do yourself damage.''

When I was an aprentice (saddler) I spent time in a Boot workshop making authopedic (spelling I know) boots and shoes. The one thing that never left my mind was the damage thongs/ flip flops can do the the joints of your toes.

The amount of people that force their babies feet into these and you see the strap going between the big and second toe. I cringe every time I see it. Then a strap behind the heel to hold the thong on.

So those are just stupid a thing to put on a woman's feet but the humble thong is doing damage to so many and that wont be seen for many years to come.
