Four people accused of killing a teenager appeared in the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Cathrina Mbatha, 70, Nhlanhla Ngema, 41, Thokozile Sithole, 65, and Nokuthula Sithole, 23, would be back in court on October 31, Captain Thulani Zwane said. The four allegedly assaulted Nkululeko Ndlela, 15, with sticks and sjamboks because they believed he had stolen a cellphone at Nhlube in Melmoth, on Monday.
Ndlela died in hospital due to the head injuries he had sustained. The cellphone belonged to one of the accused.
All four were released on R1000 bail each.
