Oh yeah, he put himself "out there". If you think his "bottom line" took any kind of hit for his political stance, you overestimate is presuasiveness, and so does he.

I don't look to rock stars for what/who I should vote for. I look to them for some music. Thier political veiws persuade me not one bit and even if I oppose their views, it will not persuade me to not listen to thier music. Likewise with film stars. Shut your mouth and compose music or act. If you want into politics then take the leap. It takes a lot of money, but then again, you already have that.but oh wait, I might have to spend my own? :loon
So because he has money he doesn't have the same first amendment rights as you and I, to say what he thinks?

I never said his views persuaded me, of course they don't, my political views were formed well before Bruce decided to become an activist, but I appreciate his view of the world and his willingness to stand up for what he believes in.

(Although you do have to wonder about the cognitive dissonance in Paul Ryan's head, as he claims to be a fan of RATM.)

If a person makes his or her living by performing or pretending to be someone he is not (actors), and has not had to earn a living in any conventional way for a long time (or ever), then this might be a valid consideration when evaluating their opinions or political positions.

People LISTEN to public personalities, but whether they HEED them is another question. They do not give up their First Amendment right to have and voice opinions but the opinions carry more or less weight, depending... It is both ironic and funny that people tend to take actor's seriously because of the roles that they play - police detective, farmer, or whatever.

Though I'm not a Springsteen fan, I wonder why someone would "...appreciate his view of the world..." any more than that of the person who takes my order at the drive-in window at Wendy's. Indeed the order taker's perspective is likely to be more like mine than Springsteen's.

Why don't you say the same thing about Charles and David Koch, who use their considerable wealth to promote their political opinions without actually running for office?
Ok I will. I don't go to the Koch brothers for advice on who I should vote for.
And I don't listen to TV/Print ads as they are nothing but sound bites and words taken out of context. Now I believe everyone has the right to voice their opinions just as I have the right to not listen to them, and to possibly hold that against them (not that I do, just that I can if I choose to). But for some, the "pedestal" that they, the performers have, may gvie the person they are for an advantage, and I think htat is wrong. I guess it comes down to for some people it's who they like and who those "show biz" are endorcing. Just like I think PAC money is wrong as they are nothing but spouting off for thier own benefit and many times that benefit does not coincide with the general welfare of the people nor even those who donated to the PAC.
When I worked for Motorola they had a PAC that they were strongarming people to donate to. I told them go f--- themselves. If I want to donate to a CANDIDATE (not a party platform) I will do so. Otherwise, you or your PAC do nothing to benefit me nor those in my situation.

I did get a transcript on the Bishop vs Altschuler debate (I was unable to attend as I do go to my 12 step meetings every night) and will use that and future info to make my decision. I voted for Altschuler last time (he lost by some 500+ votes) but I am leaning away from him now.

I don't know the order taker's view of the world, but I do know Springsteen's and since I adore his music, it is even better that I have come to adore the man as well. Would I stop listening to his music if his views changed, or if he stopped aspousing them, absolutely not. But try going to a concert, dancing and singing along, having a fabulous time, and then a song comes on that is not only great music, but reflects your own political view of the world. How can you *not* love that experience

Some thirty-something years ago I thought the same thing when at a Who concert the The Who played "Baba O'riley.

It's only teenage wasteland.
THEY'RE ALL WASTED!!!!

I no longer seek comfirmation of my own views from those I pay to entertain me.

Oldr, you're just not getting it. I DON'T SEEK CONFIRMATION OF MY VIEWS FROM ENTERTAINERS. If you haven't figured out that yet about me, you haven't been paying attention. :arg :arg :arg

Well 30 years ago I did get the same "feeling" at the Who concert. Affirmation/confirmation/common view whatever. I know you didn't go there expecting that. You went for entertainment and your "entertainer" expressed some of your own views. However you want to feel about that is good for you.
I have no love loss for any of the stars who happen to be great actors. But I do enjoy their shows/movies. If they happen to express my political and/or social/fiscal values, gods honest truth, I usually don't notice.

I go to the Anti-Nowhere League for my political views...
