It's one of the few programmes that has made me think "Cardiff, not such a shithole after all"
The Welsh Convention And Visitors Bureau owes a lot to Torchwood...

"Thank God For Torchwood; If it weren't for Torchwood, the only things we'd be known for are melted cheddar cheese on toast and not honoring our bets..."

"Wales: The New Jersey of The United Kingdom..."

"If the world has to come to an end, Cardiff is a pretty good place for that to happen...it's not like anybody would notice the loss..."

I like New Jersey. They have cheaper gas.

Splott? If god wanted to give the world an enema.....

Rewatching Children of Earth...

Apart from the senseless end of Ianto, it is such a good series.

They could and need, to reboot torchwood, Jack has access to The Doctor, none of the events of CofE or MD haven't crossed into his timeline, easy reboot to pre CofE, Ianto lives, The Hub never gets destroyed ... Jack is a fixed point and can't be changed so he remembers everything.

It's a bit whatshername from Dallas in the shower, but frankly worse things on telly have happened.

We just got episode 7 of Miracle Day over here last weekend, (we watched it last night) and from the promos for next weeks episode, it looks like John de Lancie, (the actor who played "Q" in TNG, and a really nasty bad guy in SG1) will be joining the cast...
Apart from the senseless end of Ianto, it is such a good series.
Well Daze, as I said before, I also found Frobisher's killing of his family and the death of Jack's son at the end gratuitous and unnecessary...

But I agree that it was a gripping series; it was as well done as the best Stephen King film adaptions...
After watching Children of Earth, we went back and watched the first two seasons, (we hadn't been following the series) and one of the things I found interesting (and amusing) from a character development standpoint, is the evolution of the Gwen Cooper character...

She starts out as a naive, fresh faced, well meaning young girl PC in a backwater Welsh town, and turns into a leather clad, karate choppin', high kickin', double gun totin', Emma Peel/April Dancer-type Über Tough Chick...

I knew there was a reason I'd hate this program.....

Well now that we've had the final episode of Miracle Day, a few thoughts...

Bill Pullman was superb as Oswald Dane, the creepy psycho child molester killer...(which was a very different kind of role for him; he normally plays Eagle Scout-type good guys; like President Whitmore in Independence Day )

But while the series had it's moments, thematically it really didn't hold together all that well...(It was definitely not as good as Children Of Earth...the connection between "the families and "the blessing" were never made that effectively, and the ending was really rushed.. I got the impression that after building the plot fairly slowly for nine episodes, the director suddenly said, "hey we're about to run out of budget here; we've got to wrap this up"...

So now Torchwood is Jack, Gwen, and a second immortal, Rex? Really? And the next series is supposed to focus again around "The Families" and their "Plan B"... ( :? ) with the totally amoral but admittedly hot, Jilli (Lauren Ambrose) Kissinger...

I really think they're painting themselves into a thematic corner here, and that if they want to continue the series, some sort of time-line re-boot along the lines Daze suggested (that would restore The Hub) would be a better way to go...

CP, he was so young in that, I had forgotten that was him...

Possibly one of the most hilarious movie scenes of all time:

I love that movie I just think it was a little too far ahead of it's time.

Wow, sounds great. I can barely control my disappointment it ain't on TV here. No hang on - it was easy

Gen'l, he doesn't actually molest or kill any children in the series, (though he does have a very chilling soliloquy about it with Jack in one episode) the way the story opens, he's sentenced to be put death by lethal injection and he gets the injection...

And then he doesn't die...

And after that nobody dies...at all...anywhere on earth...for weeks...

And then the rest of the series is about the effects this has, figuring out how it happened and who's behind it, and bringing it to an end...(so that people will start dying again...nobody dying is not as appealing as it might sound...)

It's actually a very intriguing plot line and it was worth watching; I just thought it meandered some in the mid-to later episodes, and then just wrapped up too fast at the very end...

But you're right, it's probably not your cup of joe...

You just stick to re-watching your complete box set of Father Knows Best episodes and Doris Day movies...

(Well wait a minute; maybe not the Doris Day movies...those might be a little to "racy" for you... :nana )

I won't hear a word against Doris Daily! One of my favourite periodicals. What's "Father Knows Best" - one of those Catholic nasty videos?

I agree the ending was a little too quick, Jim.

My favourite scenes had to be the ones with the sadistic bastard who ran the overflow camp, he made my skin crawl from his first to his last moments on screen.

But yes RTD needs to revisit and reboot torchwood, and soon because there is really only so much of Barrowman presenting daytime quiz shows I can take, he needs to get that greatcoat back on and get back to being Captain Jack.
