Last Defender

Post by Gob »

The final Land Rover Defender has rolled off the production line.

Workers at the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plant in Solihull, West Midlands cheered as the last one was presented with its lights flashing and horn blaring.

More than two million of the 4x4s have been produced over the past 68 years as it became one of the most-loved and long-lived road vehicles.

....the last one was presented with its lights flashing and horn blaring.
That's quite an accomplishment considering the Lucas electrical system.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

You're assuming they INTENDED the lights to be flashing and the horn blaring.

But wasn't it intended to be an OFF-road vehicle??

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

That's exactly what i was thinking as I read that post.

Lucas headlights have three settings. Off, dim, and flicker.

Blah blah - yes, but they were not "Defenders". That name came a lot later.

TIme was, they were just Land Rovers (I, II, II and so on). That name didn't come about until 1990 as a change from the 90 and the 1/10 and THAT was only because they started producing the Discovery in 1989

It will always be the Landie for those who loved it F 'Discovery'

The Buick V8, actually...was dropped after 2004. Later ones (in the US) used the Ford/Jaguar 4.4 DOHC V8.

Was this ultimate vehicle the smuggler model (with the machine gun mount at the back) or the police model (with the machine gun mount in the front)?
