I think that rubato is being undeservedly shat on here.
Well, if you believe that, than by all means, act on his behalf....

Stand up for him....

I do not presume to act on anyone's behalf, unless that person has asked me to do so.

(And even then, my answer is often "no".)

Whether one calls it "[ s]tand[ing] up for him" or whether one calls it observing the flow of the conversation is of no real significance.

I have stated (at least some of) my reasons for concluding that he has been undeservedly shat on in this thread.

(Which does not mean that I will not shit on him in some other thread, if I think that he deserves it.)

Others can choose to respond to those reasons, or they can choose not to.

Well, I guess we have a different attitude...

Because if I believed some one was being unjustly "shat upon"...

I would rise to defend them...

But I guess that's just me...

I agree with Andrew. rubato's initial post about choosing to go forward was utterly harmless. The abuse and ridicule hurled at him for choosing to offer his thought is out of order. It is a well-worn pattern of responding with mean and petty minded insults to anything that he posts in any thread.

Since that first post, and as usual, he has willingly joined in the handbag fight with his own abusive messages and those are equally to be condemned. However, in this thread he didn't start it.

I was in the process of composing a posting to respond to Lord Jim. But MajGenl.Meade beat me to it. And he said what I think better than I was going to. So I will just, as the phrase in parliamentary proceedings goes, associate myself with his remarks.

Oh Meade, don't get me started on this yet again....

Let me ask you...

If you could be stuck in a fox hole with me or rubato, who would you pick?

Don't worry about hurting my feelings... 8-)

Did you intend that to be a complete non-response to what MajGenl.Meade (and, by explicit association, I) posted, Lord Jim? Or was that just some sort of weird accident?

I am borrowing MajGenl.Meade's words. But my words are my own. So if anyone wants to hurl invective, please hurl it at me. MajGenl.Meade is in no way responsible either for my opinions or for the manner in which I choose to express them.
The abuse and ridicule hurled at him for choosing to offer his thought is out of order. It is a well-worn pattern of responding with mean and petty minded insults to anything that he posts in any thread.
(Emphases mine.)

Almost exactly. There are rare moments when one of the posters here acknowledges that he is correct about something. But there are several posters here who, very much on the whole, are interested only in deriding him, not in addressing whatever it is that he has to say.

And I don't get it.

There are times when rubato is wrong. And when that happens -- especially if he is arrogant about it -- those are the times to shit on him.

But what is this obsession with him?

Here's what I suggest....

You and Meade show a great love for each other, while I show the great love for Santa and what he can bring.....

How much more obvious do you want to make your obsession with rubato?

Just to set the record straight Andrew.

A few of us had had a worthwhile guffaw at rubato's (I assume) miss reading of the OP, and all had moved on.

Then he came back with this;
rubato wrote:
Econoline wrote:
Sean wrote:I don't think you've quite grasped the meaning of the word 'history' Rooby... ;)
...or the word "back"

Why would I confine my interests or ambitions to merely those which uninteresting people can conceive of?

Time is a continuum which extends into two directions. Forward is a lot more interesting than back. It is the undiscovered country.

yrs,

You're a friggin' loony Andrew, and I'm sick and tired of indulging you....

How's that for making my point?

Ah, yes. The almost inevitable consequence of obsession: Irrationality.
Lord Jim wrote:You're exactly right, Andrew, and I'm sick and tired of your pointing out my hopeless inability to justify my own behavior.
Fixed that for you.

You have driven away other posters before. Anyone remember AndyH?

Perhaps you will be able to drive away rubato. But I doubt it, because the last thing you want is for him to leave.

But try not to fret too much, Lord Jim. After all, you are in very good literary company.

Your frustrated love for rubato comes across like Tom's dipping Becky's braid into an ink well.

In its perverse way, it's actually kind of cute.

Probably not going to be the most popular viewpoint round here but here goes...

Is there any need to jump all over Rubato every time he makes a post?

Some might not like him personally, he may well say some things that one may regard as inflammatory or incorrect, but rather than just turning on him and attacking him, posters could choose to ignore him or respond to the point made rather than resorting to Ad Hominem.

In this thread he only started slinging insults AFTER people started insulting him first.

I love the atmosphere we have in here since the removal of the thorn in our arse. We dont have to be a bunch of huggy hippies or owt, just civil.

Thanks

Well Dais, Meade and Andrew, if making a joke and even adding a 'winky' to make it absolutely clear that I was joking is jumping all over him, shitting on him or insulting him then I suppose I'm guilty!

I responded to his post just as I would have responded to anyone here who made that post. The difference this time was in the way he responded compared to the way 99% of the members here would have responded.

It's the way I am. If I see a potential for humour I grab it. There aren't enough laughs around to let any slide by. If the winky is there, it should not be taken too seriously.

Maybe the solution is for rubato to ignore my posts or, failing that, try to see them for what they are.

A sense of humour is a wonderful thing and those with the best capacity for humour are those who are capable of laughing at themselves.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Yes, rube's a complete innocent victim...

It's amazing that anyone could have such a negative attitude towards such a well meaning soul...

It's mindbogglingly....

How someone as serene and pastoral, (almost Dalai Lama like) as rubato...could capture any negative waves...
