If you awoke today, from a 30 year coma,

Post by Gob »

If you woke up from a 30 year coma, and you were suddenly aware of all the latest household /personal technology, what would you be most gobsmacked by?

If you woke up from a 30 year coma, and you were suddenly aware of all the latest household /personal technology, what would you be most DISAPPOINTED by?

GOBSMACKED BY: smart phones and mobile apps.

DISSAPPOINTED BY: 500-channel television and nothing is on.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I'd go with that first one but my second would be the simply awful manner in which the human animal uses, is addicted to and fetishises smart phones and mobile apps.

In another mode, I shall answer Gob's question that he quite limitedly did not ask thusly:

Waking thirty years from now, I am most amazed by discovering a series of posts between LJ and rubato which read "You're a twat"; "Who is?"; "You are"; "You are what?"; "Huh?"; "I have a hernia"; "I have two"; "Who are you again?" and so on. I am most disappointed to find they are both living in the same retirement community and playing wheelchair golf together

I am guessing we have been in a coma for the past 30 years and have suddenly been awakened to the current technology/state of the world.

Wile I am an EE, much of the technology (of which I have been part of designing, Motorola Razr and driod phones) I am not a user of much of it.

So my number one "gobsmack" would be the answering machine (voicemail). Means I don't have to answer that annoying thing ringing off the wall. Oh wait, where is that annoying thing that used to ring off the wall, damanding that I have to talk to someone I really would rather not talk to, aka most people. And what did they do with the dial????, what are these buttons and beeps I hear? I thought by now people would have rebelled and thrown the damn contraption out with the rest of the trash.
But anyway, answering machine is my favorite.

My biggest disappointment I have to agree with Meade. People paying more attention to such technology and totally unaware of their surroundings be it other people, the world in general or the truck bearing down on them while they continue to walk out into the middle of the street totally clueless. (oh wait, can I vote that as one of my favorites?)

But answering machines have been around for a lot longer than 30 years oldr... Granted, they weren't anything like as common as they are now but they were definitely around in 1982.

Me? I think I would be gobsmacked by today's animated movies and disappointed that The Professionals wasn't still on TV.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Well aside from the obvious disappointment to learn that Ronald Reagan was no longer President, I guess the next biggest disappointment would be discovering that we still don't have those flying cars I've been promised ever since I was little kid back in the 60s....

My biggest surprise would probably be to learn that Madonna is still performing....

Actually they do but they're not cheap enough for wide market usage.

If I awoke today from a thirty year coma, I'd go forward to see how it all turns out.

I'd go back and prevent the coma.

Vyvyan: This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence. Oh, la-di-da! Look what I found in my laundry bag. All of Felicity Kendall's underwear, that needs a good wash!

Neil's dad: Felicity Kendall is sweetly pretty, and just what a real girlie should be. Felicity Kendall is a wonderful woman, and I want to protect her.

Vyvyan: Well, it's the first time I've ever heard it called that...
But when you said "today", did you mean today or November 21st? I only ask because some things happened in the past two days that I would really be amazed at if I didn't wake up until today. Or tomorrow. :loon
