Who shot JR.

Post by Gob »

RIP Larry Hagman.

Larry Hagman, who created one of American television's most supreme villains in the conniving, amoral oilman J.R. Ewing of Dallas, died on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was 81.

Hagman died at a Dallas hospital of complications from his battle with cancer, the newspaper said, quoting a statement from his family. He had suffered from cancer and cirrhosis of the liver in the 1990s after decades of drinking.

Hagman's mother was stage and movie star Mary Martin and he became a star himself in 1965 on I Dream of Jeannie, a popular television sitcom in which he played Major Anthony Nelson, an astronaut who discovers a beautiful genie in a bottle.

Dallas, which made its US premiere on the CBS network in 1978, made Hagman a superstar. The show quickly became one of the network's top-rated programs, built an international following and inspired a spin-off, imitators and a revival in 2012.

He lived much longer than he deserved to. The bastard drank himself out of a liver, got a new one and proceeded to marinate it with alcohol too.

The new series of TV drama Dallas is to be rewritten to reflect the death of actor Larry Hagman, who played scheming oil tycoon JR Ewing.

Hagman, whose role as the stetson-wearing villain made him a global star in the 1980s, died on Friday aged 81.

He was on board when a new version of the show appeared earlier this year.

A statement from UK broadcaster Channel 5 said: "Dallas is midway in production on season two and this sad news will be incorporated into the storyline."

Hagman featured in a promotional video shot on the first day of filming for the new series and posted last month. The next season makes its premiere in the US on the TNT network on 28 January.

I agree (Micky Mantle was another). Being an alcoholic, if my liver were to go, I would not even ty to get on the transplant registry. I do not deserve it.

George Best also did that.
