That was amusing - a cross between Robin Williams and Gallagher with rather less fruit and vegetables.

rubato - do you realise that when a live performance is recorded, it is the record of a live performance?

I must admit that it's not impossible that he did the entire show with no audience and a laugh track was added later . . . but perhaps you will take the next fizzily logical step of explaining how the moon landings were all faked?

Fixed!
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Summer of cricket!!
Event: PM’S XI vs WEST INDIES

Date: Tue 29 Jan 2013 2:20pm

Punter to captain? WTF No one good available?

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting will lead the Prime Minister’s XI in the first-ever day night match at Manuka Oval next year.

Ponting was on Tuesday morning announced as the PM’s XI captain for the historic game with the West Indies in Canberra on January 29.

The 37-year-old batting great has retained his place for the third Test against South Africa at the WACA, starting Friday, but has retired from one-day international cricket.

“It’s a big honour for me to be selected as captain of the Prime Minister’s XI,’’ Ponting said.

“It will be an exciting team of emerging cricketers and I’m looking forward to leading them against the West Indies on January 29.’’

Ponting’s arrival is another boost to Canberra’s centenary celebrations, which include the inaugural visit by the Australian cricket team and a Kangaroos rugby league test in April.

The rest of the Prime Minister’s XI team will be selected by Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel with input from Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and will be announced in January.

Why are they wearing goalie Leg pads?
And a baseball cap with a football face guard strapped to it....

ETA:

I think I may have the answer to this....

In order to try to relieve the deadly tedium of this "sport", the performers amuse the audience by dressing up like prop comics....

Choosing random bits of equipment from real sports, and wearing them all at the same time...

Batting pads are large, protecting shins, knees and a of lower thigh above knees, with a slot for the foot. Pads are one of the several protective gears wore by the cricketers while batting. Also known as leg guards, pads are wore on the legs by the batsman to protect them from the hard leather ball. Most pads have three velcro straps to fasten them to your leg, making them easy to adjust. A special knee roll is provided to protect knees from the ball. Traditional pads have ribs made up of cane wood to provide more protection, running vertically up to the knee roll.

Professional players also include extra padding beneath the pads to encounter the impact from the ball generally delivered at a speed ranging from 80 to 90 miles per hour (130 to 140 km/h).

Modern day pads are made up of durable, strong and ultra light synthetic material like PVC to avoid fatigue caused by wearing them for a long time. Traditional pads were made up of cotton, foam and cane wood strips covered by a white cloth, making them heavy.

Head injuries are quite common among cricketers – especially among young players. This type of injury is usually the result of a blow to the face from a ball travelling at a high speed. The nose, teeth and jaw can suffer severe fractures and bruising in this way.

As in rugby and soccer, concussion can occur. Symptoms include amnesia, memory loss, headache, confusion, poor coordination or vision difficulties. Players who have suffered concussions do not necessarily lose consciousness.

Little can actually be done to treat a concussion, other than rest. However, it's crucial that a physician examine anyone who might have a concussion in order to exclude intracranial bleeding.

Event: Public Image Ltd

Now a few years back on deck from a 17-year hibernation, post-punk dons Public Image Ltd have announced their first run of Aussie tour dates in 20 years, hitting the East Coast in support of their world-wide album tour.

It’s been actions all stations since the group reformed back in 2009. With their leader John Lydon (who you might remember/know as the Sex Pistols gnarly frontman) at the helm, the band kicked things off with a world tour (minus Australia) before putting their attention to their first album in almost two decades.

This Is PiL, released in 2012 is testament to just how legit these dudes are, demonstrating the same fury and energy as its older siblings First Issue (1978) and That What Is Not (1992).

The album scored the band a spot in Mojo Magazine’s Top 50 Albums of the Year roundup, as well as other numbers accolades, proving just how much the world needs PiL.
