I am claiming that you are ignorant and you are proving it with every post.
LOL...

Well, let's take a little look at your participation in this discussion, shall we?

First, you change the subject from the original topic (from genetically determined political ideology to genetically determined "personality") and then you provided links to back up your substitution as though they actually backed up the original topic....

Whether this was intellectual dishonesty or just sheer ignorance on your part was an open question, (you've proven yourself more than capable of both). But strong evidence for the "sheer ignorance" argument was made by your next post, when rather than backing down, you attempted to defend this subject switch with a specious, butt-yanked assertion that was based on nothing more than your own simplistic personal prejudices. (A silly and shallow assertion that was easily knocked down.)

Now given this record, explain to me again why anyone should give serious consideration to anything you have to say on this subject?

You haven't even addressed the actual topic; and from what you've posted, apparently you don't even understand it....

Or put another way:
you are ignorant and you are proving it with every post.

I am sure is a genetic component for just about every "trait" we have, but how much of a part does it play in us being "us"? The left leaning college student becomes a right leaning family man and business owner later in life. Was his gene a left or right gene? Did early life experiences trump a right leaning gene and as he got older the gene become more and more dominant? or was it a left leaning gene that was dominant early in his life only to be overshadowed by life experiences as he ages?

I know I was more liberal thinking when I was younger only to become more conservative (especially fiscally) later in life.

All I know is to tell for sure if someone is male or female you just have to pull down their genes...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is

Owning property does have that effect, does it not? Clearly, environment determines consciousness (and vice versa) except when it doesn't.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

No, it doesn't. Speaking only from personal experience, if anything, I have become more "leftist" in my orientation with age and less impressed with so-called "property rights."

So which "leaning" gene do we each posess, and are we persuing nature or nurture?

I have no opinion on whether or to what extent there may be a genetic component to political leanings, although I have no doubt that genetics may play some role in predisposing us to some things rather than others. I would think that in the case of something like politics, it's probably a pretty attenuated connection at best, but again I have not looked at (let alone understood) the research.

All I can say is that from my own experience, I seem to have developed more in the lefty direction I was started rather than becoming more conservative. Then again, I come from a family of Gene Debs socialists and Henry Wallace progressives who intermarried with Adlai Stevenson Democrats. So perhaps the genetic predisposition controls after all.

I might have understood the papers posted had my eyes not glazed over and I started drooling. But I always have that happen on things I think are inherently obvious. That is, both genetics and nurture are at play especially on personality and attitudes and political leanings. Which plays the upper hand? I have no doubt the answer is YES.

My father always was a staunch conservative (who has softened lately) so when I was young, part of my liberal thinking may have been the usual youngun striking out against "the man" as younguns are inclined to do. Now do I have the conservative gene and has it manifested itself lately? Who knows. All the studies show is support for the authors own biases.

The evidence for a genetic component to personality is quite compelling.

Compelling indeed, and THAT explains why you did not post the requisite multicolored graph as opposed to the pseudo intellectual cherry picked reference links...

Yes. I agree. Very compelling. 8-)
Thank you Timmy;

I was afraid the ignorant and mean were getting bored with this thread. Nice of you to think of their needs too.

Because no matter how one reads the "research" that was presented as "evidence"(?) in the links provided? It comes up as total bullshit.

Trois.

I've said before, my family are mostly Republicans, although my Mother has always had more liberal leanings. I started my political life as a conservative Dem and have become progressively more liberal.

As to property, the more I have the more I understand how little *stuff* matters. Don't get me wrong, I love my home, and all of the things I've filled it with, but if it sailed off into the ocean tomorrow (always a possibility, given where I live), I'd pick myself and move on and probably prosper.

I know a few houses that did just that. Their owners are still waiting for the house to sail back. Don't know if it's coming back. If not, I got more than one house building gig in the spring (possibly this winter).
and where the F$%^ are the FEMA trailer homes they promised?
:shrug

Yes, I'm gong back to MAstic Beach this weekend (at least one day). Hopefully Brookhaven has cleared the debris so we can pile up some more.
