That's A Lotta Sushi....

Giant yellowfin tuna taken in Puerto Vallarta could be largest ever at 427.9-pounds

What could be the largest yellowfin tuna ever taken has been caught off Puerto Vallarta, Mexico weighing in at 427.9-pounds.

The remarkable catch was made by Robert Pedigo on board his boat the Journeyman on Thursday morning around 10:30am with Captain Russel O'Neil at the helm.

The previous record was taken by Mike Livingston on the San Diego long range boat Vagabond on Nov. 30, 2010.

It weighed 405.2-pounds.

That record will remain in tact as IGFA record fish must be caught unassisted.

"Yes, this fish is not going to be a world record because I touched the rod while Robert (Pedrigo) fought the fish," said Osuna. "We never thought this fish was going to go over 400-pounds."

According to Captain Danny Osuna from Marla's Sportfishing who was also on board, Pedigo made fast work of the mammoth tuna."He landed the fish in 30 minutes; he put the heat on this fish and brought the fish to the surface fast," said Osuna. "Great angler."

When asked how he felt about the giant tuna not qualifying for a new world record, Osuna was upbeat. "We are fine with it. The best feeling we have is that we caught the biggest yellowfin ever on rod and reel."

How sad it is to see such a magnificent beast killed and put on display for our consumption.

That tuna very likely came from a nice family with kids that were still in a school.

According to this link yellowfin only live 6 or 7 years.

He was probably reeled in during the prime of his life.

On the up side, it can be processed in a dolphin-safe tuna factory. ;)

Half hour, damn that's fast for a fish that size. :o
Probably netted him a pretty penny if sold at the dock.
