Tobacco free for eleven years today

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

Dec 11 2001 - 2012 . . . but still trying to work off the extra weight. So far, magnificent quantities of wine have not reduced the waistline. Ditto ice cream. And chocolate. Can't figure it out. I purposely sited the 'fridge on the opposite side of the kitchen and tightened the door hinges so I'd get some exercise (walking; resistance training). I considered taking up smoking because I understand that can help reduce eating . . .

It's also the anniversary of my dad's death in 1977. I often wondered if the two events were connected, though so many years apart.

But they taste a lot better now, don't they?

At work it's a game of two halves for me.

90% of our client group smoke, and every so often I get a whiff of freshly lit tobacco, (It's always; "can we go out into the garden to talk so I can have a ciggy?") Just that smell brings back so many memories and the urge to smoke, luckily I'm too fucking arrogant to light up again.

The other side of that coin is that we have one main lift in our office block. Getting in the lift with two or three people who are just back from "cancer corner," (the smoking area,) having poisoned themselves enough to do some work, make you realise that the fuckers stink like old ashtrays.

It's been a few months for me. I find it less daunting if I don't keep an accurate count.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

39 years for me. Unlikely to start now. :nana
Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.

Congrats to all who've become smoke free - even those who cheated by never starting !

Of all the things I've quit doing in my life, smoking was the hardest...Since 94

Congratulations Meade -- and to the rest of you also. Well done!

Ditto -- a most difficult habit to get rid of. Hopefully, you all reap the reward of healthier and longer lives. Quitting sure does not seem to have negatively impacted any senses of humor (or humour).

Quiting smoking is harder than quiting alcohol although relapse for both is a constant concern.
I am tapering off on my smoking and have some time on not drinking. How come I feel like shit? :fu

It takes a few months before you start feeling better from not smoking. ..that is unless you go for the cheap thrill by becoming a smoke nazi. Doedn't sound like a good trade to me tho. I mean a few months of artificial happiness for a life time of being an asshole?

The most rabid anti smokers seem to be former smokers.

Ex smokers had long been one of my biggest hurdles to quitting smoking.
