Well Jim, the problem is that the phone/internet contracts require a lot of information that doesn't work for me - monthly income (proven by pay slips); employer references; a South African ID or permanent residence number; some other stuff. Last time I offered to pay the year contract in a lump sum in advance. No dice. I could probably duke it out ever higher up that management chain until I found someone sane. Or as with how we got our ABSA bank account (a long saga) I could use connections to get to someone at the top who can clear out the nay-sayers. But it's too much bother.
