Political Analysis

Post by Rick »

I posed this on the other side, but since there is less chance of nonsensical interference here I'll repose.

Jim it appears you have a knack (at least in my opinion) for political analysis I am curious about your thoughts on the political races that are going on in Arkansas.

A short synopsis on the candidate their platforms and your final choice would be wonderful.

I already know who I have in mind just curious if we agree...

Well Keld, I didn't know a whole lot about Boozman, (so I wanted to do some reading up on him before I responded) though I do know a fair bit about Lincoln....

I am, as you know, a Republican, and I see nothing in Boozman's record or candidacy that would constitute a "poison pill" that would cause me to vote against him...

He may be more conservative on some issues than I am, (like abortion...but I never decide who to support based on that issue) but he's a five term Congressman who also has substantial experience owning and running a successful small business; he's a solid Conservative but there's nothing in record that suggests that he is either a wingnut or a phony....

Lincoln, by contrast, seems to tack with the wind and appears to be willing to adopt and change her positions based almost entirely on the political expedience of the moment...As an Arkansas voter, I frankly would not have a lot of confidence in anything she said....

That's my personal view...

Now from a political analyst standpoint:

In this race, it seems to me that it's almost impossible to craft a path to victory for Lincoln. She's getting buried in the polls; The latest realclearpolitics.com averages have her down by a whopping 25 points, with very little undecided. Boozman on the other hand, consistently gets 55-60 per cent support..Very good numbers...

There are several reasons for this; a lot conservatives and and many moderates probably view her as I do; as someone who cannot be relied on. And of course she just went through a bruising primary that alienated her from the liberals in the state (such as they are)...not that this group will vote for Boozman, but a fair percentage probably won't vote at all.

That primary also hurt her in another important way; the ability to raise money. In the past she was able to raise substantial sums from labor...that's gone now. And the fact that she's so far behind makes it difficult for her to raise money from any business oriented sources....

25 points down, unable to raise money, no real "base" to draw upon...

Barring some stunning blunder on Boozman's part, (like getting arrested soliciting sex in an airport mens room, for example) There's probably no Senate seat in the country that's a more definite pick up for the GOP than this one.

Thanks

I had little doubt of your choice.

The thing that really killed Lincoln was holding out so long on the Public Health thing.

Everyone else that held out were at least "OFFERED" concessions.

She did it and got nothing...

Keld ,what part of Arkansas do you live in?
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.
